Speaking of keys reminds me of the fact that one of my Elite Avantgardes is lacking two keys...
I overcame this problem so far by using a pen to press in to the hole...but a nice and proper key would be fine

Does anybody know where to get the black plastic things (those who own a machine like this know what I mean)???

I somehow think that you and I are not the only ones to have a Conchess with some non working keys.

It is just that we are the only ones honest enough to admit it.

No, i too have to admit, that my Ambassador had some non working keys!

But it was only a matter of corrosion on the contacts; so a little rubbing did the trick!

Thanks for that Alain. I for one didn't realise that. I think I will just keep on switching the machine off and on again at the end of the game.

you know, Mike, I also thought until yesterday night that you had to turn the Conchess off to start a new game... but I checked the manual, just in case and found this procedure
Anyway, my Ambassador has problems with some of the keys and I am not sure I would be able to do what is described

best,
Alain

This is just one of the many idiosyncrasies of a Conchess.

OK David on the manuals.

Can't currently figure out from French manual how to reset the Ambassador after a game without switching off to reset.

bottom of page #7 : "Si, la fin d'une partie"...
If, at the end of a game, you want to play another game, remove first all pieces from board. Push on (white circle with dot) (black circle) keys. The light of (white square) symbol will light on. Put the pieces like indicated previously. Once you have pressed (white circle with dot) (black circle) keys, all the knowledge from the previous game is erased from memory and the training level 2  is automatically selected.

Best,
Alain

Hello Mike

Many thanks for the info on the Conchess Ambassador 'L module'. I gather the Ambassador had a weak opening book so think I'll hang on to this.

Thanks also for the offer of manual copies. There's only a few key pages that I probably need for basic game play so I'll contact you off forum if OK with these if you are able to find time sometime to copy.

Can't currently figure out from French manual how to reset the Ambassador after a game without switching off to reset.

with regards

David

Hi David

If all else fails I can photocopy the manuals you require.  At present I do not have a scanner up and working.

This is the best information on Conchess modules that I have found :-

http://www.schachcomputer.at/comodule.htm

You will see that your L is an openings module with about 3000 moves. Apart from the standard program module, which is the one you probably have (?) the other modules are quite rare. If you really do not want it I can swap you the L for a machine on my Sale & Swap list?

Anyway let me know if you want the photocopies.

All the best

Hi

Newbie member here. My brother and I have two chess computers, the Conchess Ambassador and Mephisto II without English manuals and wonder if any kind soul could offer scans. Thanks to those offering the German / French ones online but struggling to decipher the finer points.

Does also anybody know what the lefthand module marked 'L' does in the Ambassador, is this a dummy box or does it do something. My example has one, as well as program module in right bay.

Can't offer much in return. I do have an English / German manual for Novag Amber if anyone seeks a scan, it doesn't seem to be offered on Novag's site.

Thanks for a great forum.

David Walker (UK)

(Also own Novag Universal chessboard which enjoy using with Chessmaster 8000, Chesspartner and Winboard engines, engine v engine mostly, my own chess standard is grim!).
