Hi chaps...
Check out this thread from earlier this year, which has an interesting & in-depth discussion of the 2250xl

I played a few game in 20 games this weekend against the 2250XL and I had a similiar situation to yours in that I needed to press the pieces down hard to register a move. My new pieces did not come with any felt stickers on them. Do you know of any sources for those? Anyway. this was pretty consistent acress the board so maybe it is a design issue? I have a Saitek Explorer which is a more current model which takes very little pressure at all to register moves.

Mark,

my pieces came without any felt stickers...I think I will make some myself...
Concerning the pressure sensors I too think it is a bad design...maybe that's why they dont't sell these machines anymore

Anyway it is still fun to play against it.

It looks like that on my plan, you would have run out of opponents!

Mark,

you do not know how many games I had to play to score these two points

Anyway your list seems to be correct, thogh it is difficult to judge the playing strength of the machines between 1000 and 1300 Elo correctly...
You have a lot of work (and fun) before you!
You should get yourself a R30 just in case you reach the bottom of your list faster than planned

Wow! Great games. I actually haven't played with mine very much since I played in a weekly unrated "human" tournament yesterday here in town and spent a little time preparing for it. I am a weak but hopefully improving player and I have decided to check my progress by lining up my chess computers in order of strength and  taking them on one by one. When I can defeat one regularly I'll move on to the next.

Here are my machines in order of strength, from what I have seen on elo lists etc. Please feel free to correct me if any are in the wrong order or have the wrong rating.

Kasparov Alchemist Plus    1160
Kasparov Olympiad            1200
Excalibur Express              1200
Saitek Travel Chess          1200
RS 1450                            1200
Boris Diplomat                    1267
Fidelity CC7                        1311
RS 1650                            1450
Kasparov Team Mate        1580
Saitek Conquistador          1580
Excalibur King Arthur          1670
Saitek Prisma                    1735
Excalibur Glass Chess        1750
Excalibur Grandmaster      1840
Saitek Explorer                  1880
RS Master                          1896
RS Master 2200X                1896
RS 2250XL                          1978

Mark,

finally two games I played against the RS 2250XL. They show very well his weaknesses (and mine too ).

In the first game I got barely out of the opening, then had a strong center and a weak king...but the RS 2250XL undertook nothing decisive, and I mated him

Second game he got a weak pawn, and by trying to defend it he misplaced (and lost) his rook...

Thanks for the kind offer Christian. I didn't check the message board for a couple of days and went ahead and ordered a set from Radio Shack. I'm in the US and it was only $21 delivered for the set. The extra black queen will probably come in handy. I'm enjoying mine so far, how are you enjoying yours?

I will be playing with the opening study feature tonight.

Thanks again,
Mark

Mark,

I neglected the RS Computers a long time...but this is a very nice machine. It has an interesting playing style, and the big LCD Display is great (especially when your 2 year old daughter tends to snatch away some pieces during the game ).
But I have to be quite stronginthearm to press the pressure sensors. Is this the case with your device too?

Hi, does anyone have a spare white pawn they could sell to me for this chess computer? I'm in the US. Radio Shack has the set in stock but I only need one piece. I just received it from ebay today and I had no idea the pieces were larger than my other Saitek tabletops. I'm excited to pit it against some of my other machines.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark,

my 2250 XL came last week - with a second set of pieces. So if you PM me you adress I'll send you a pawn.

Most Saitek tabletop computers use this set:

My tabletop Tandy and Radio Shack computers sport this set:

I have no idea where Mark lives. If it's Europe, it is probably less expensive for any of the European members to send what he needs. After all, sending something from America to Europe may be very expensive, as you can read here:

    http://overtom.nl/weblog/09JUN05.html

Best regards,

tom

P.S. I'm sorry to say the second set is not Tandy/Radio Shack, but Novag. The fact that nobody corrected me may hint at the board members' good manners ...

Hi Mark,

Can you post a picture, details and the dimensions of the pawn? I don't have that model but I have a few miscellaneous pieces and if I find one that is close enough and you want it I'll be happy to send it to you.

Regards,
