The Novag Star Diamond that Dick suggested is a good option. The Obsidian (also from Novag) is even stronger. The opening book has over 8900 halfmoves and special strategies for middle/end game.
.

Ismenio,

Are you certain about that?  They show that the Star Diamond is quite a bit stronger, ELO, and also has a larger opening book.

At least, if I am reading their stats correctly.

Dick Schneiders

Dick, you're absolutely right! My bad!

I think that also the Mephisto Master Chess Computer may be an option.

Now if you want the strongest chess computer you can get today, check this out: www.ismenio.com/ruud.html (you will need a wooden board though). It won't be as portable as you may want but it is smaller than the Grandmaster.

$$$ no problem.  It must be portable-table top- and have a great openings library.... GM Excalibur excluded-too big!

The Novag Star Diamond is a good table top with a very large opening library.  A lot smaller than the Excalibur GM, also.

The Novag Star Ruby is a handheld, stylus computer that is quite strong and a good opening library.  It isn't table top, but obviously very portable.  It can be purchased here:
