Have you looked at this guy?

I realize he's in the US so the cost of repair and shipping may make a big difference. I never dealt with him but I'm curious as to who he is and I"d like to exchange some info with him.

Ismenio

The nearly dead Phantom was originally sold for $620.99, supposedly in full working order, in virtually new condition, in box with everything except a dust cover. That was in March last year.

It was relisted soon after as faulty. The story told was that it had been in perfect working order at the start of the Ebay sale. But in a final test before shipping out the owner had not been able to get it working properly. To his horror. It is stuck on blacks move, he said.

Well Michael got suckered in thinking he had an excellent chance of getting it working and won the auction paying the best part of $200.

The Phantom is all the things the seller described it as, except that the only sign of life is a light which appears next to black on the console. I have taken it to bits looking for an obvious problem but I can see nothing. Probably a chess computer electronics wizard could find the failed component(s) in no time at all. Who knows. If there is such a person in the UK I do not know of them.

I live in hope that I will find someone to fix it and one or two of the other walking wounded that lie around my loft.

All the best
Mike

Thanks guys! I'm really happy I got it. It makes me wonder what else is out there

BTW, Mike, what's the problem with your broken Phantom? You may have mentioned that before but I can't remember.

Congratulations Ismenio. It is always a buzz when something turns up new and untouched.

Now it is going to be difficult not to put them on my watch list. You could have done a buddy a favour and told me they were rubbish.

Folks, the Green Phantom 6100 (Fidelity) has just arrived and I'm glad I got it! I was wondering if itbwas really wise to get this one because I'm saving for another project but I had a nice surprise! Not only I like the white/black squares + the green lettering but I have reasons to believe this thing was never used!!

The seller shipped the original box without even wrapping it up! He just closed it with duck tape and that was it. It's in good shape actually but the surprise came when I opened it up. The unit still had a sticky plastic covering the board! I almost didn't want to remove it but I had to test it. It was so clean, the motor sounded so smooth and the complete internal packaging so neat that I really think it's been sitting some place for years! Even the way the power supply cord was wrapped seems to be the way it came from the factory! I didn't even let it play a whole game and repacked everything.

So it was either extremely well kept or it's a rare overstock item! The reason I'm posting this is that the seller has others and they're selling at a reasonable price, so if the others are in this good of a shape, some of you may consider getting one. The final price was also reasonable, I got it for $455.

Talk to you guys later! Have some stuff to take care of now.

Green Phantom Regards,

Ismenio

Yes, Ismenio, I was in an email exchange with the actual owner of all of these Phantoms.  The seller on eBay is only a brokerage house, and not the owner.

The owner told me that a long while back he purchased a supply of stuff out of a warehouse, and all of these Phantoms were in the stuff.  I wasn't able to get any details, but it doesn't surprise me that they are in such pristine condition.

Sounds like you made a great buy.
