More kinds about Citrine...

Zusammenfassend hier meine bisherigen Citrine-Ergebnisse (je 30 Sek./Zug):

Citrine - Fidelity Elite V 7/V 6 (je 1 Partie): 0 -2
Citrine - Mephisto Montreal 68000 (= Roma I): 1 - 1
Citrine - Mephisto Modena (= Dominator): 2 - 0
Citrine - Mephisto Montana (= GK 2000): 2 - 0

But why does Novag only claim a 10-ELO increase over the Obsidian? (and no increase compared to the Star Ruby)

If the Citrine would really be that much stronger, normally the companies are the first to claim (and exaggerate!) this...

I assume, there will have to be many more games played, to come to a reasonable result!

When i take the match results of my Star Ruby and the Emerald classic plus, i should come to the conclusion, that the ECP would be much stronger than the SR (despite the slower CPU):

ECP - SR: 6 - 4
ECP - Miami: 8 - 2
SR - Miami: 7,5 - 12,5

And after the first 10 games SR - Miami, the Miami was even leading with 7,5 - 2,5!

Or maybe i have a general problem with my Novags, as they perform relatively bad here!  (my Star Sapphire losing against a Polgar on the schachcomputer.info-Online tournament; and last year's result was even worse!)

Novag allergy regards,
Robert

chessusa.com    $349.95  =  278 Euros  available 6th November?    (plus 20% import charges total 333 Euros)

London Chess Centre  249.95 = 370 Euros  available ?

Niggemann      275 Euros  available 10th November ?

As usual the UK is the most expensive.

Mike

Talking about expensive, you know how much the Exclusive Senator is sold for in Italy ?
The official importer sells it for 799 .
Thats 540
And its impossbile to find it for less.
You have to buy it in germany, france or even england. to get a better price

You can also prerorder from Chessusa.com

Yes of course, but then we poor europeans have to pay shipping from the states + duty + taxes.
In italy we have 20% vat, so in the end it costs less to buy it in germany.
Hey, the EEC/European Union might as well have a purpose.

I ordered it from Niggemann, but I also saw it in one UK shop on line (London Chess Center perhaps ?)

best,

Many thanks Alain, I'm going the Niggemann route also since it has a very very good price.
For once we europeans don't get shafted.

Goldorak,

you are right ! most of us criticize the fact that the program does not seem to be new nor very strong (anyway, it will be a lot stronger than me)... but must of us will order it anyway... and I already pre-ordered it

I fear this is yet another example of recycling an old program with old hardware but the urge to get one is already strong.

They must run out of gemstones soon.

Mike

Honestly who cares ?
I mean finally, after what, 20 years one business (Novag) has understood that the dedicated chess computers were not a thing of the past.
Sure they are past their glory days, but they can still tap into the mainstream market and that is what Novag is doing. Selling a wooden chess computer (albeit with a not top of the line program) to people who would never spend in the first place 500-600+ $, or even 1000+$ (for a resurection modul).
The price is just right, and the program will be able to defeat 99% of mainstream players.
Those few 1% can go buying ex-world chess programs from the internet.
Kudos for Novag for this long due approach, booh to Saitek for not even taking out the bugs of the senator modul.
If I had to buy one between the Novag Citrine and the Exclusive Senator I know which one I would get.
I only hope that once this chessboard come to europe, we wont get shafted with an horrible price.
Success for the Citrine can only mean that other dedicated computer chess companies will put new affordable products on the marketplace.
Everybody wins.

Hello,

Quote from: Ismenio on September 30, 2006, 05:29PM

I will let someone with way more knowledge than I do answer that one. The specs are really from an old computer with a strong program:

H8/300H RISC Style Processor with 56Kbyt Rom, 3K Ram, 20 MHz
64 Level Settings
Est. ELO rating (US) 2330
Opening book with approx. 24,000 halfmoves

But according to the ELO rating it seems to be the Star Ruby/Obsidian/Jade II-program as Novag also claims 2330 for the Star Ruby!

If it would be the Sapphire, then it should have more than 3 KB RAM!

But how about the bigger ROM? Could this only be the result of the bigger library? I don't think so...

best regards,
Robert

Hello Ismenio

Thanks for your answer.

Good question Etienne!

I will let someone with way more knowledge than I do answer that one. The specs are really from an old computer with a strong program:

64 Level Settings
Est. ELO rating (US) 2330
Opening book with approx. 24,000 halfmoves

The processor is the one used in the Sapphire I believe but the clock speed was 26.6 MHz according to a flyer I have. The Jade II had a 20 Mhz one with an estimated ELO of 2660 (again, according to my flyer). Probably we can get good info via the Wiki or the Schachcomputer.info forum

Yes, the chessboard seems to be the old UCB.

But the detachable LCD screen seems to be new...( a little bit like the saitek "president")

And what about the program ? Is it the old sapphire 2 or a new one ?
