I still haven't found many informations, but :

1) a great (and reliable) French collector told me yesterday that the 540 XT was the equivalent of the 416 XL

2) another French collector who likes electronics told me that the processor was an all-in-one processor (i.e. the chess program is stored in the processor itself) from Motorola which runs at 4 MHz. He suspects the program could have been written by Kaare Danielsen (who definitely worked for Yeno).

Best,
Alain

thanks a lot for your investigations. AFAIK has the 416 - like the 540 - 40 games with 8 test positions built in. So a relationship between them makes sense.

Viele Grüße,
Bernhard

oh .. I thougt you are just searching for those manuals marked with an "?" on your site. You will get the 540 scan within the next days.

Thanks in advance for the manual.

The flags with a "?" mean that I own the documentation but did not intend to scan it. But I think now that I'm going to scan all of them (I also have documentations not yet mentioned on the site).

There is only the serial # 540-95-12419, which could point to the release year 1995.

I'll have a look this afternoon.

yes I have the German manual. If you want it, just drop me a note.

The 540XT is tactical incredible weak. So I am complete sure, that Ulf could never be its programer. The 540XT analyzed some positions from the old Colditz test.
I.e. in the second one ( 5r1k/5Bpp/p1p1Qb2/1pq5/4Pp2/7R/Pr3PPP/5RK1 w - - 0 1 ) Rxh7 with mate in 4 was not found within 30 minutes. Ulf programs (B&P and MM II) needed 9 and (Conchess T 4) 3 seconds!

It seems that Yeno licensed programs from different sources.
Do you know its release date ? As my Yeno 532 XL advertising is from July 89's Europe Echecs, I looked yesterday in 90-91 EE (unfortunately, I don't have them all) without success, but may be it was not the right period ?

Do you have the manual ?
If not, then I have seen on the web that Jan Ströher had one with manual (but the French manual of the 301 XL does not give any information), see http://www.schachcomputer.at/stroeher.htm. May be a German manual gives more information (that's what I saw for other companies)

I also have found an advertising for the 532 XL (august 89), nothing about computer characteristics nor elo, but the name of the programmer : Ulf Rathsman... but 532 != 540

Alain
