A Gilliland Family Tree, Queensland, Australia

I haven't tripped across many Gilliland family trees from Australia but here's one that's pretty thorough. It begins with William and Mary Ann (Anderson) Gilliland to their son John, born County Armagh, Ireland in 1826. John and his 1st wife, Jane McCann, were the immigrants to Queensland and the tree branches out from there.

I'm having a hard time getting a connection to this site. Can somone else here check this out and see if they are having the same problem? This was a great resource and I hope the link is still viable.

Hello,
I have just joined Gilliland Trails and I have just tried this link but I confirm, I did not manage either.
I am trying to trace my grand father who married Helen Dunn in 1962 in England and they settled in Australia after 1962. His first name is Vincent and was born around 1918 and has a twin brother. I am desperately looking for any information to that matter.
(sorry for any mistakes or understanding of how the site works out, as I have been brought up in France and poor is my english).
Thank you for any help.
Sincerely,
Ann (my mother been born Caryl Gilliland)

I can't get the above link to work either.

I will assume the head of that tree is John & Jane Gilliland from Co. Armagh. They are my G/G/Grandparents. They  arrived in Brisbane on the Duke of Newcastle in 1862 with their 3 children (Joseph, William Henry, Sarah). My G/grandad John was born in Oxley in 1867. And I have some detailed info on life in Queensland Australia.

But I don't have much from where they came from in Ireland.

Hi Nosba,
I know a number of your cousins mostly those from
the Gympie area here in Queensland. I was given two separate family trees by a couple of other cousins of yours, one from Nanango and the other originally from Chinchilla.
Your G/G/grandfather John was born at Hamiltonsbaugh in County Armagh c1821 and was married at Richhill about 4 miles away 16/11/1848.
I may be related as there is a resemblance to one of your cousins. My gggrandparents came from the Ballymena area of County Antrim.
            cheers, Robert Gilliland

Hi Robert,

There are a lot of Gilliland decedents from the original John & Jane in Queensland. I am aware of most associations, they are my great Uncles, Aunts and 2nd cousins. I am the youngest granddaughter from Archie & May, who is the son of John Jr.

I do have records of John & Jane marrying in Richhill. But I have no records of parents back from John. Everyone points to William & Mary but I have a sneaky feeling there seems to be a number of misleading items. As I can't find a record of birth for John. And I have birth c.1826. (but that doesn't mean 1821 isn't correct either). I do have a copy of John's death record and (I believe) holds incorrect information on his mother and father.

I saw Co. Antrim come up a lot in some of my research, but can't connect the dots to John.

There is a lot of family resemblance within the family. The fellas have a certain high forehead and they don't go bald they recede backwards. And there is a facial structure, that when you look at them, you just know they are related.

If you like email me  mareeabson@gmail.com . I'll send you a picture of my Dad & Uncles, they are uniquely Gilliland!!

AMAZING A whole website dedicated to our awesomness haha

William Gilliland and Mary Ann Anderson are my 4th great Grand Parents. I am the oldest granddaughter of Dennis Gilliland who is the youngest son of Percy George Gilliland, the 8th Child of John and Jane McCann.

I have just started tracing my history, and have just discovered that hubby and I have moved to the same region that a lot of my ancestors used to farm. (we are now dairy farming as well )

I am so excited to find more info out

Welcome. I am the great-granddaughter of John a.k.a Jack (Percy's brother). My grandad was Archie Sounds like we are living in about the same areas. So if you ever feel like cross-checking family notes, let me know.
