Good day.
I hope I am not out of order here, as I am not a society member. Nor do I know much about Morris Commercials, I'm afraid. It could have been a lorry or a bus.
A farmer I know is disposing of some old chassis, used under farm trailers for some sixty years. I am trying to find homes for them as otherwise they will be scrapped.
One of these bears hubcaps with the letters MC (or maybe CM!) on them, and I immediately thought it may be a Morris Commercial.
A picture of it can be viewed at http://www.self-preservation-society.co.uk/chassis/4-3.jpg .
Can anybody confirm this, or tell me (if it isn't) what it might be?
More photographs information of this and other chassis for anybody interested can be found at http://www.self-preservation-society.co.uk/chassis/
Kindest regards,
John |

I'm no great expert, but your engine number suggests it's a post-war vehicle. Appearence wise there are three clues: 1. Are the bottom edges of the sides of the bonnet curved or straight? 2. Does the radiatior grill bow slightly inwards or curve outwards? 3. Is the front bumper of 'D' section with a bolted on lug for the starting handle, or a squarer, deeper style with the starting handle hole going through it?
Lastly, is there any sign of lettering under the current paintwork on the van body and cab door panels? It may be worth while rubbing down these areas with wet & dry paper to uncover any signwriting or transfer markings that will help identify a previous owner. In turn this will be an aid to tracing your vehicle's history and the dating of it. Also any chance of a photo?
Happy hunting,
Mark |
