After a long absence I have signed on to the forum. I eventually found the location for the chassis number on the Dictator. It is on the INSIDE of the foremost front spring hangers (both sides) . The location is obscured by the radiator.  I have not found anything stamped in the chassis rails. This may apply to other Morris Commercials of this era but this is pure speculation

I stlil haven''t found the engine number.

Hi Nigel,
Re your reference to the brass plate on the bulkhead on the C types. Yes, I have seen them on other CV models, however my 1939 CV 11/30 shows no sign of ever having such a fitting, and there are no location holes for it on the baulkhead/firewall.
Of course my vehicle was one of a large order for the MOD, so perhaps this explains it's absence?

Hello Dave,

Regarding where Morris-Commercial stamped the chassis number, on the Dictator and Imperial, I don’t know that for sure. However, on the C type, which came after the Dictator and the Imperial, and was also produced Adderley Park, it is on a brass plate on the bulkhead, and is also stamped  on the nearside rear wheel, rear spring hanger, and can be viewed from the rear.

I don’t know about the location of the engine number.

The Dictator & Imperial are somewhat thin on the ground. Are you involved with the Dictator & Imperial that are at the Wythall Museum?

Regards

Nigel

I must admit that I too would like to know where on the post 1937 CV types. I have seen the engine number on the off side of the 24.8 HP engine, but my 1939 vehicle's engine is not so marked. Any suggestions before this site ceases to exist?
Also can anyone advise on a suitable fan belt for my CV 11/30?

Does anyone know where on the chassis Morris Commercial stamped their chassis nos in the early 30's?  (The Dictator and Imperial in particular) Also where is the engine no stamped on the H series 6 cylinder OHV engine used in the Dictator and Imperial. (and as a 4 cylinder lump in the Courier).

Any assistance apprecaited
