I live in Ireland and I bought a Morris ld5 ambulance (converted to a camper)from a local farmer. It was left in his yard 32 years ago after the owners broke down while on holiday . They never returned for it and didn't leave any info about themselves. The reg. is 999 UDH . I rang the dvla but they have no record as it's been off the road such a long time. I'd love to know the history of the vehicle.
Has anyone any advice of any other ways of getting info ?

Hi Chris, i have a LD '71 with no windscreen or engine and didn't come with a log book so i dont know how far you've got with your van but it sounds like we're in similar situations with our ambulances.

Thanks for your reply Nigel as it applies to my van as well.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your 3 message postings. Sorry for the delay in replying.

Members own or have owned around 35 LDs. If you were able to join the club, as distinct from just being on the message board, you would be sent a copy of the member’s handbook, which lists member’s vehicles, and unless withheld a member’s rough location, i.e. county, and phone number. This means that if you were able to join us, you would be able to contact fellow LD owners.

I am sure that other LD owners will be able to tell you what their consumption is with a petrol engine.

Regarding the windscreen, once again I am sure that other LD owners will be able to offer advice. What you don’t say if your LD has the 2 separate flat windscreens, or if it has the curved windscreen.

Regarding the 999UHD registration number, that number was issued in Walsall in January 1963. The registration registers for Walsall still appear to exist, so there is the possibility of claiming that original registration number. Just to explain, I am the DVLA Liaison person for the club, so it would be myself processing any application with DVLA. It is likely that the ambulance would have been registered with the hospital in Walsall, seeing it was registered there.

As a starting point, you may want to consider joining the club. Seeing you live in Ireland, to keep the cost of membership down, you can opt to have the pdf version of the magazine, so membership would be £24. If you send an email to Morriscommercialclub@hotmail.co.uk I can email you some info about the process of reclaim a registration number, info about he club, and a membership form.

Regards

Nigel
