hey guys
my name is pippa and im studying interior design at uni at the moment. ive got a group project looking at different types of disabilities in young and old people. my group has decided to look further into cases where a wheelchair becomes part of someones everyday life.
if any of you would be able to answer a couple of questions we would really appreciate it!
1. how are the public transport services where you live in relation to using a wheel chair?
2. are there many bus stops/taxi ranks that have been modified for your use as well as the other general public?
3. what is your biggest mobility issue being in a wheelchair eg. getting to new places/getting around home?
4. if you could design your own mobility system or adjustment to an existing system what would you include?
5. what is the most difficult thing about being in a wheel chair?
sorry i didnt relise how long this was but if you could all take a look and answer a couple of the questions or add in some of your own thoughts etc that would be great! hope you all have a great night

This is coming quite late.
There are many difficult things about being in a wheelchair. Everyone will probably respond differently.
Probably the two biggest problems are accessibility issues and people problems.
Accessibility differs so much from place to place. In certain areas, it is not so bad. In others it is impossible.
As far as people problems go, some people are pretty helpful, but many are ignorant or downright rude. It can be discouraging for a wheelchair user. Wheelchair users are just people who happen to be sitting down. Nothing is different because of the wheelchair except that life is more challenging. But many people just don't seem to get it. |

Hi Cathee
This is too late for your holiday. But maybe others who come here can find it useful. There are companies everywhere which rent wheelchairs and other related equipment. Here is an article about wheelchair rental. At the bottom of the page are links to companies around the world. Contact a wheelchair rental company and chances are many will rent shower chairs.

I am not sure what you mean by a vehicle adapted to take wheelchairs. If you mean he can go into the vehicle in his wheelchair, you will never be able to do that in a car. It will have to be a van.
Here is an article that gives more information about how to select an adapted wheelchair van. Hope it is helpful.

First Quadriplegic to Letter Comic Books for DC comics (Publisher of Superman, Batman, JLA, etc)
This is what I planed to become in August, 2009. Hello, my name is Kuen Tang, I am a C6/7 quadriplegic. I have no control of my body from chest down and no hand functions. Since my new life began 8 years ago, I have been able to achieve many things I was told were impossible. In 2006, I became the first quadriplegic female to earn a Bachelor of Education degree with specialization in Elementary School. In the same year, I became the first quadriplegic to do Functional Electrical Stimulation (F.E.S) partnership rowing in North America, and also became an Ambassador to the Rick Hansen Foundation. In 2008, I became a council member on the Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities.
DC Comics on-line imprint, Zuda.com, has 10 comics on-line for the month of August, and the one that gets the most votes wins a publishing contract!
Our comic submission has been chosen as 1 of the 10 to compete.
It's called Absolute Magnitude
Please register and vote for me. Need your support to make history by voting on Zuda.com today!
Help us to win it for people with disabilities.

| has anyone experienced hair loss while taking Detrol LA? i have been taking the medication for one month and it stopped my bladder spasms and urine leakage. it may be a coincidence but i have been experiencing excessive hair loss for about the same length of time. hair loss is not one of the listed side effects for Detrol LA. |

| My name is Jeremy I am 21 years old i burst my C6 diving into a pool, it was incomplete. i was paralyzed from the chest down. I had sesation tho. About my 5 or 6th day in ICU i moved my big toe over the next month of my hospital stay i started recovering quickly. It went from moving a toe to a foot to a leg to standing up. I finally was able to take some steps. These days i get around pretty good i would say im 60 to 70%. I am able to care for my self tho. Im pretty independent, i go to college and work construction part time with my father. It was hard, you have good days and bad ones. All that matters is if the good days keep getting better. I still have a good ways to go. The doctors gave me worst case scenario, but i stayed positive and determined. it was hard REAL HARD but it can be done! |
