On a couple Elan FB groups, skidoo Elan and Elan nation, the question was asked how many MPG you got.

I have all these people claiming they only get 25-30 out of a tank. A stock tank is 4.3 US gallons.  I recall out own YETI (1970TNT) reporting 40 miles from a tank with a TWIN elan on a vintage ride in PA mountains/hills towing a small sleigh.

I also know friends of mine that get with a belly tank in a 335 Oly in the range of 35-40 miles out of 3.5 gallons river running heavy on the throttle.

My 71 owners manual states "2 hrs 48 minutes at full throttle" for fuel consumption.

I have gotten ten plus MPG with a 73 Oly 340 twin not being easy on the throttle in some loose and some groomed snow.

I think the guy only getting 25-28 to the tank must be running a TNT single or something breaking trail at wide open...40 to 50 miles with a bone stock 12 on mostly groomed trail seems more realistic to me.

Possibly the problem is very few Elans in the enthusiast crowd are "stock"  and most of them are off trail bushwhacking, climbing hills etc and nobody really has a GPS or odometer.

What kind of range on a tank have y'all experienced?

I just remember back in the day being out in the fields and woods playing with the 71 I could go most of the day on tank full. I had 73 250t that I remember for some reason seem to go longer on the tank full. Back then didn't care about gas mileage and gas was more reasonable to buy and you were just having fun. Be interesting to know what you could get.

BOOT'S OLY 69 12/3 GETS ABOUT 12-14 MPG GOING ON THE TRAILS IN NY. MY 73 ELAN 250T HAULING MY STEALTH BODY AROUND GOT 10-11 MPG ON THE SAME TAILS. WHEN WE RIDE WE RUN ABOUT 3/4 THROTTLE. DON'T FORGET THE 69 OLY  ONLY HAS A 3.25 TANK AND THE 73 ELAN HAS A 4.O TANK YETI

I won a 1972 `elan two years ago when I bought a ticket at a vintage ride I go on every year. Nice original sled for $5.00! Not sure why, but it drinks gas like its job! Had a 71 `elan many years ago as a kid and same thing, hog on gas. Rick
