I got a guy that stop by today that needs some help on this sled. He said he can't his sled to start and he says there is no spark at the spark plug. He said middle of last season he couldn't get the rer to work it would start up but as soon as he pushed the button it was like hitting the kill switch. Now this year its started twice but now nothing. He took it to his dealer where he bought it brand new and they told him that they don't work on any sleds over 10 years old which I thought that was odd but anyways. The sled has like 8200 original miles with no rebuild on it which at first I thought of compression but he says it has no spark on either plug. Would anybody have any ideas where I could start testing and what would the compression be on them engines.

Likely the MPEM. (Multi Purpose Electronic Module), especially since he was having RER issues. Not uncommon for dealers nowadays not working on sleds older than ten years...

I'm afraid I have to agree with VSDPS based on what you wrote.

Sucks, I've heard that also, if the sled is old, they won't work on it.  Where is the sled at?

No spark (for sure)?  Check the Kill Switch first.  I know a Cat guy that the dealer threw almost $800 in parts and labor in a ZL600 ESR EFI then he called me.  I troubleshot it and was a bad (intermediant) switch.  Then Ohm out the Stator: Coil(s).  Trace and check for just basic connections from Spark Plugs back.

The sled is in Western New York. I have a Mxz 600 of the same year but I don't feel like taking my computer out to see if that's the problem. I know of a guy that has a sled that his wife smashed up that he was parting out but I think its a 03 mxz 500 would that module work to see if gets the spark back. This sled isn't his main sled just an extra when somebody wants to go sledding that doesn't have one. He is just little upset because he has bought a lot of things from this dealer but I guess a few years ago the younger generation took over the business and this is there policy. I guess its good for us weekend warriors that work on these part time.

You may possibly try the 500 module just to check spark, but not 100% sure. It certainly would not run right if at all with a 500 MPEM in a 600.
Also, check the kill switch as Monty suggested, seen that problem as well. I leaned towards the module when you mentioned the RER issue. We replaced a few back in the day, even though the sleds were only 2-3 years old at the time.

I was just going to see if it brought the spark back and yes I agree that the module wouldn't make it run the same. I looked into seeing if a module for that sled was available and they look like there obsolete. Thanks for the advice VSDPS

Like the other fellows are saying, good chance it is the MPEM. But for sure check out the kill switch, bare wires etc. The engine dies when switched to reverse.......This may not be the MPEM, if a engine has poor compression or poor spark plugs, when switched to reverse it will not "re-start" in reverse direction when switched.
