Ski Doo Bunny ???

I was talking to someone today about some Ski Doo items and sleds he has for sale ... and one of the items was what he describes as a 6 foot fiberglass bunny that was at local a Ski Doo dealership.

Does anyone know what this thing is? Was it a company advertising piece? I have no pictures yet. I will hopefully be visiting him in early October.

So here it is!!!

It needs work, but nothing a good fiberglass man can't fix relatively easily. I had to pay dearly to get it ... but I had never seen one so I dug deeper and bought the darn thing

I think the only piece missing is the yellow goggle lens.

That is a really neat find. I've never seen or heard of that before.  In a way it's a little creepy. Reminds me of Donnie Darko, LOL.

I am not going to restore it. I will be selling/trading it to someone with the resources to redo this thing right.

It looks rough . .. but on closer examination ... most of the damage seems to be non structural (apart from the ears).

I had done a little bit of research before buying it and had found a photo on the internet ... turns out it was a photo of this same one! Might be the last one remaining ... who knows.

It is cool ... that's for sure!

Wow, that's rare. I wonder if the Valcourt Museum even has one. They didn't when I was there 18 years ago.

That thing is wayyyyyyyyyyyy KEWL for sure. It seems as if no one has seen one before. Doo we think it was actually a Ski-Doo corp promotional item or possibly some dealer had it made just for his/her own display ??

It was a company item for sure. I spoke with the son of one of the owners of the Atlantic provinces Bombardier distributorship. He verified that they were offered by Ski Doo and remembers them well because he was working for them at the time it came out.

Skoodi has a new home!

It seems to have all it's original clips etc ...

Here you see the damage from the broken off ears ...

He seems quite pleased to be standing next to the dot

I am quite pleased with this find I must say!

I Have received some information from Guy Pepin of the Bombardier museum regarding Skoodi.

While I can't reproduce the articles and images etc.. because of copyrights ... I can say that Skoodi seems to have been an ''ATLANTIC SKI DOO Ltd.'' initiative!!! (Eastern Maritime provinces of Canada). The parent Company (Bombardier) supported this initiative wholeheartedly.

Possibly 100,000 copies of the comic book were printed ... there was a Skoodi club that you could join after having attended a safety clinic sponsored by Atlantic Ski Doo ... some posters were printed ... maybe other materials to support the program, but it is unclear what those items might have been.

It is unclear at this time, if there was more than 1 Skoodi statue that was made. From what I can gather ... he was accompanying the people who were promoting the program at different venues. The Skoodi statue that I have may indeed be the one and only!

A little update regarding Skoodi.

Apparently he is one of one. He was made by the people who ran Animal Land in Sussex New-Brunswick, Canada. Animal land had a bunch of statues of animals in a park setting and was a tourist attraction for a long time. They got the commission to create him.

Here you can see Skoodi riding on an Atlantic Ski Doo float, in a parade, somewhere in the maritime provinces. The machines involved in this picture date it to the mid seventies I believe.
