Introducing fauxto ski, the moto ski wannabe. In its previous incarnation this little buggy was a 1982 Yamaha Bravo. It looked woeful in a cracked up maroon cab over faded black chassis. But it was a great running sled and a ton of fun to ride so I made the commitment and satisfied my jones for an orange and navy blue sled. I know I'm bending the rules here by going off brand but I know you guys will like this one. I'll leave the post up for a few days and then it will be gone.

Ha!  I love the job you did on that rig!  You'll have a lot of people fooled with that.  Should take it to shows too.  Good work Larry

Thanks guys, knew you would like this one. Ya Joe, that seat is one thick, plush, whoopie cushion like piece of furniture.

It's always interesting what you find when you take them apart. This sled has a total of 10 bearings, not counting the engine. Eight of the ten were frozen up...all six wheels, the drive shaft, and the jack shaft. The only two that were good were in the chain case.  Also the brake was adjusted way too tight. It rolls so much better now. The original skis were rusted through so needed to be replaced. By a wonderful stroke of luck the mid 70s ski doo skis and leaf springs aligned up perfectly with the factory saddles.

This buggy is a nice compliment to the elan, a perfect little one person sled. Doesn't float as well but steers better. The 250cc single has surprising zip to it. These things have a following and I understand why. I had no idea what I was getting when I bought it but it was only $100 so we threw it in the truck. Glad we did.

I started this project in the first week of August, planned on being done by the end of September. Finished it second week of January, right on schedule

Ya Steve, the tracks are a little tricky. Kimpex made a track and drive axle to go with it, I have one of each in reserve. Keep looking, they're great little sleds even if they don't look like mine.

Best of both worlds! I split my love between my ski doo's and my bravo. They are tough reliable sleds.

My 16 yr old nephew has a Bravo and he and his dad are die-hard Yamaha. (In defense of my Nephew, he was unfortunately brainwashed at a very young age, LOL!) I might have to steal his and give it a similar treatment.  Bulletproof little sled, just keeps on ticking with very little maintenance.  Good thing is the track on my nephews was replaced and is like new still.

No reason to take this post down Joe Oly- that is a fine clone job!

Over on the moto ski page I follow on Facebook, a guy has taken one of those kids 120's of unknown make and made it in to a Moto Ski Bullet.

I spent many hours either driving or riding two up on a 340 twin variant of the Enticer, which came out as a 250 single with a short track.  Another friend had a 3500 Citation one lunger. Those were tough machines and we rode them hard two up and they held together with all the abuse 16 year olds can dish out.

When Yamaha went away from the short track Enticer single they brought out the Bravo. They also made a long track version which trappers etc love.

Now I love my Doos, but seriously when Doo's Citation was competing with the Enticer, what was Doo thinking with that stupid steel belly pan that came way up the sides? Yamaha had a nice aluminum pan and a hood so you could get to the freakin' sides of things to do maintanence and repairs!

Thanks Eric, nice to have your input. The thread got such a good response I figured I'f leave it up for a while. They made the Bravo for 29 years! 1982-20011, longer than the elan. And like the elan it was pretty much unchanged throughout its life, except for the introduction of the long track version. And yes, that was very popular with the working folks. As my brother would say..."I can drink a lot of beer just looking at that sled"

Another vote to leave it up.  Hood bulge almost looks like a baby Sonic kind of thing.  Mad skills Joe Oly.
I'd still rather ride my 250 citation than a yam tho, doo just feels lighter and better balanced in the deep stuff

Ya man, shades of Sonic, you got it slojoe. That's exactly what I thought the first time I saw that cab. That was the style point that inspired me to go orange and blue

It sure does look great. Even the belly pan, those are usually beat to crap on Bravos. Great job!
