Hey guys.

After finishing my last 1970 292 T'NT project, I found that it was just too nice to drive ... at least for the time being.

I have found another project sled that I was going to sell. When nobody stepped up to get it ... I decided that I was going to redo it myself. This time ... as a DRIVER! Yes ... I will be driving this one come hell or high water!

So ... here we go!

Here she is in all her glory!

I must say that it is in WAY BETTER condition than the first one I did last year.

Today I stripped the entire sled ... and here are my preliminary finding ...

The carb is incorrect ... it should be an HD-22A ... I will be looking to fine the correct one ... but I won't be knocking myself out doing so ...

The track is in almost new condition ...

Bogies and axles ... standard stuff ... replace cogs and bearings ...

The cab is in horrible condition ...

The Tach is there ... not pretty ... but there ...

I have already found a replacement cab ...

This one will be a much easier fix ...

I took a bore scope and looked inside the tank to assess the condition ...

Overall ... looks pretty good in there ...

My buddy has a home made rig to test cavities under slight pressure using smoke as a leakage indicator ...

The tank proved to be solid with no leaks ... here you see the residual smoke coming out the spout ...

With the tank being in good condition ... the only areas that were of concern was the seat area which has some rust through ...

I will probably be fixing this up with fiberglass ...

The rest of the frame looks pretty good ...

The skis were incorrect ... but I have a pair on hand ...

Another ambitious project. I'm sure it will  look as good as all the rest. So where you gonna cut corners so that it qualifies as a rider and not a show piece?  I've put myself in that corner a half dozen times.

The frame is off to sandblasting ...

Today, I tackled the windshield. I had heard that NOVUS plastic polish worked wonders on old windshields. I decided to give it a try ...

After a cleaning with Windex ...

The stuff ...

I applied the stuff with a random orbital  polisher tool I got from a Meguire's kit ... the application was easy peasy with this ...

The results are satisfactory. The windshield is now usable. I reapplied a new decal where the old one was because the tint in the windshield was not the same colour as the rest. Lack of UV rays hitting it i guess. Anyways ... it is an original piece which is going to be reused!

The only place you can cut corners is on the cosmetics.

It's always exciting when you are about to apply colour to a sled ...

Here I am spraying a base coat of white paint over the primered parts ...

George is seen here applying the final touches to the white base coat ...

Here you can see George mixing the stuff of dreams

There was two coats of white to cover the gray primer ...  then onto the colour coat ...

It took three yellow base coats to cover the white base coats ...

And finally ... two coats of clear ...

I am happy with the results. I will be transporting the parts to my shop over the weekend ...

If you don't mind me asking Stephen, where are your sourcing your paint?  Doo you have a make and paint code you can share?  I have tried repeatedly to contact a well known supplier here in the USA and have not gotten a reply so I don't know if he is still in the biz?  I need to move on to other options if I ever plan to finish my 67.

Your project looks great so far.  Its amazing how you just make things come together and actually make it look easy.  From the bodywork to setting points, to the finishing touches that really make a project come together.  What I am finding is the hardest part of a restoration is finding the time    All I can say is well done again!!

carb done ..

It is an HD-22B which is incorrect for the 1970. It should be an HD-22A. I am not gonna lose any sleep over it though.
