Dealing with an irrational seller (jerk)

A couple months back, I was scrolling on the ol Facebook and follow one of those vintage sled trading boards. A guy in the Minneapolis MN area had a '72 Oly parts sled for $100. I wasn't the least interested.

Two days later it's $35 with the notation that he needs it gone by 8am the following day. Now I can see the hood is intact (not perfect) the chain case and secondary is there, no engine, no seat but a set of skis that don't look too bashed. Tank appears in one piece too.

I comment that it is too bad I would not be in Minnesota for a month. A friend of mine also comments that he lives ten minutes from the guy and can pick it up for me. Well heck yeah!

I message the seller... his response in all caps (No it isn't 70TNT ) is NO GAMES!

I reply that I am not playing games, he is selling, I want to buy, and I will pay pal him the money ASAP. My friend "Pooch" will come right over and pick it up. And BTW he and Pooch know each other.

His response? "ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT MAKE ME WANT TO CRUSH THIS THING!"

At this point I wonder what kind of meds this guy is on or if he has me confused with some one else! I send a very calm message (all of this is on Facebook Messenger and I have screen shots) that I am not playing any "games". I have references. I have not "ripped off" anybody in this hobby....  His response?  "LAST CHANCE"  I am also going back and forth with Pooch, I tell him he is on the way!

And how is paying via PayPal trying to rip someone off? It's 2018! Paypal means you have a legit bank account, and a verified address!

Half and hour later, I get a message from Pooch. Seems the guy had it half sledge hammered and saws all cut up when he got there...

Pooch did get me the tank (really nice!) and the hood remains, which I was able to salvage the headlight pop up hardware from.

Now, I have known Pooch about ten years and he isn't the kind of guy to trash talk anyone in the hobby.

I asked him, he said this guy has a "Real short fuse" and that he "Doesn't even trust his own mother, who he still lives with at 38 years old"

A month later I swung by Pooch's place in Minnetonka, and picked up a very nice, un cracked tank complete with the spill tray and cap to use on my '73, the broken up hood which will become wall art in my shed, and he would not take a dime for his trouble!

I take the high road, did not make one comment on this guy's post, however he is on my list of "Ignore" from now on. Won't post his name here, but if anyone wants to PM me I will gladly tell ya who to "avoid" at the MN swap meets and on the boards!

Its on of those cases where you hope he had one too many drinks. If he's like that sober then he must be nuts.

WOW.  I'm happy you got some parts out what shouldn't have been nearly so difficult!  Good on ya for takin the high road man.  Some lads are literally unbelievable.  72 Blizz is right that this guy is at very least nuckin futs - also sounds like bad meds were in the mix too..

Ya man, great read. You got me fuming, I just wanted to slug the guy...(problem is I'm a facifist). Oh the turmoil, oh the inner conflict, oh the contempt. What's a fella to do? Damn, who could have thought sleds could bring me to blows.
