Hey guys I put that 292 into my 69 today, A carb rebuild, and a little tinkering and the motor runs like a top !! So my throttle cable is a little on the rough side, But the spot where you clamp the cable to the carb dosent seem to tighten down enough... Am I missing something ?? Do you hook the cable into the spot like a hr carb, then run it to this spot ?? or run it straight down to the mount on the carb? Hear are a few pictures....

The clamp is supposed to clamp down on the metal end of the cable, not on the black plastic portion of the cable.  Like this on my 70 292

That cable core looks to be in need of replacing sjjbib.  You can get them at the bicycle shop for about five dollars. Make sure you get the one with a similar barrel shaped end for the throttle lever.  I believe it's for mountain bike brakes.

You need the extra terminal part that the cable fits into, similar to the mount from a 399 twin as shown, but without the threaded portion. The end of the cable fits  down inside the spring  just right and the larger diameter allows for easy champing.
