74 Elan muffler removal

I am at a lost here and I am reaching out to the experts. I have been trying to remove the muffler twice on my 74 Elan 250 and I am always facing the same issue. Now I HAVE to remove it because I believe I have a nest restricting the exhaust flow.

There are 2 bolts at the manifold and 1 screw at the top of the muffler. Then there is an other bold at the bottom preventing me from twisting the hole assembly out of the rubber grommet/hole at the bottom. I cannot move the top section forward to clear the motor either. What I am missing??

I have often found it easier to double nut the lower stud ( one by wire junction) and remove that stud.

Try loosening the motor mount nuts to give you some room to tilt the engine out of the rubber exhaust grommet. Then wiggle it free. Might need to loosen the steering post U bolt too

You're the man Bones. Remove the stud and the muffler came out easily. The stud has metric treads into the motor and imperial outside. 1/2" nut. Thanks a million.

Thanks GaWajn for the offer. It was going to be my last resort if I had to. Thanks for posting.
