Ata swap meet yesterday ... I purchased a 340 top end. I have sort of a plan to build a 340 single. This thread is started so that I can get help/info/suggestions on how to best approach the project. I would like to replicate a 1969 320 SS engine which I think was the first 340.

First things first:

Identification of the parts.

Head ...

From what I have seen in earlier posts about these heads ... I am assuming that this head is from a 1970 340. Do you guys agree?

You might have noticed a small crack where the missing exhaust stud should be installed. I will be wanting to have this fixed. I have never had anything made of aluminum welded. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about this repair ... based on actual succesful experiences?

I have not measured the cylinder as of yet. The cylinder wall seems to have to scoring ... just a little surface rust. I am hopeful that a honing is all it needs ...

It might not be totally clear in the photos ... but the piston has a normal lower ring and an L ring for the top one.

I will be measuring the piston for wear and suitability to be reused ...

GaWajn. I am going to retract a comment I made in our e-mail. I said |I thought I was seeing a Olympic piston, nope that ain`t right. You doo have a 69/70 - 340 TnT piston there.
