Since the message board is running on it's last breath we were obliged to look for a new one...
We've installed a stand-alone one in contradiction with the boardnation one we had up till now...
It's situated on http://www.egc-i.co.uk
Click on the Forum-link in the left Main Menu
Note: Requires activation on the Website so you'll need to register or login from there if you want access |

I will complete what i can on Mirc first see how it goes...once thats all done if TS/CB stuff still not done i will look into those options, thanks for the info
I believe ive found a script that gains information from servers...i will have a look at how its done etc see if i can create one around it or something.
Also i downloaded those TCL scripts you posted to get info from TS/CB...will look at them a bit more now. |

I would suggest if you're serious about the more advanced features like teamspeak info, parsing server details etc, interacting with CB you look at using something other than MIRC's built in language.
Personally, I find it acceptable for basic scripts reacting to user commands / certain text, but anything complex is more problematic.
That said, I know the code for server query in MIRC script is out there for you to er, learn from
You might want to get a look at some of those TCL scripts we were talking about before for the CB / TS thing as in both cases you'll be interacting with web pages.
Although I know you're already into coding it, i'd take a step backwards look at where you want to run it long term.
MIRC
Pros
Everyone has it, everyone can run your bot
Can provide a GUI
Cons
Possible security issues (its a whole client program rather than a framework)
Possible conflict with other scripts (ever tried to load peace and protection into god irc? DONT )
I can't bung an MIRC script onto the server for it to run 24/7
Eggdrop
Pros
'The Standard'
Designed to have modules running independantly of one another, this means you can release all the bits as seperate modules as you finish them - keeps complexity down
Linux native, but also windrop available
It'll teach you (arguably) more useful scripting languages (ie TCL / PERL will look better on your CV than MIRC script)
I'm interested in learning it - so if you like well commented code you can have a helped :p
Lots of existing scripts avail
Cons
More alien than what you're used to
PIRC Bot
Pros
Java ( so should run anywhere )
Will teach you a bit about OO
Serious framework
Easier to do socket stuff in Java (this is arguable)
Cons
Java (some people think its evil - they're just bad programmers )
Means learning a new language and concepts
Personally, i'd probably go for PIRC as its OO - but thats personal preference - eggdrop is recognised as being the bot standard, and MIRC will be easiest if you've already started on it
I do love to make things simpler for you

I did the scripts for something to do if anything (these long summer holidays are dead boring!) but i thought id TRY to make something useful, the result: [EGC-i]Marvin (name from hitchhickers guide to the galaxy ) Note: some of it may be buggy
Complete: "looking for a war" - amsgs when looking for a war (Will be on me cause marvin is only in our channels) lol game - counts how many lol's etc - now deducts points for lol spamming Chanstats (!chanstats) - how many ops/voices in the channel Chanpeak (!chanpeak) - the peak for the channel Instant kill (!instantkill) - picks someone from random and kills them (no kick just text) Status script - voices people unless they are found on the "safeops" file which then ops them, also if someone tries to deop them will op them back Voting (various commands) - starts a vote on anything, counts yes and no etc. Only ops can start/end vote
To do: Help command - help system for various commands etc Various links on entry and on command - link to our forum and website, our other channels and also our friends channels. Servers IP - shows the ip of our servers, hopefully will be able to show which map, how many players, settings too
The "i hope to do but maybe im not good enough" list : TS Info - shows to ops the TS IP and also whos on there Various links - to our other channel Clanbase stuff - shows our next match and stuff (if i cant do this i'll set up a system for us to add to it etc) Hangman game Trivia game Word frenzy - think countdown only making words out of proper words
Any info on bugs/ideas etc are obviously welcome
Edit: should bring him in tomoz (16th) - games etc will only play in our trivia room. |
