Title: Brown Mtn. Area Geology.
Post by: offamychain on April 10, 2008, 07:14:48 PM

In reading some of the past posts in this forum, I noticed that several have wondered about the geological make-up of Brown Mtn. I just so happen to have shared a bed with a lady for almost 15 years, who is schooled in geology. She knows right where to get this kind of info, literally in seconds.

She's not interested in the paranormal as I am, and I'm not quite as interested in geology as she, but being married to one, a few bits & pieces tend to rub off on ya. :) :). By the above statement, I can't really elaborate on anything more than what I've posted here...but I'm sure she'd be tickled to discuss geology with you, as long as the paranormal doesn't come up. She'd probably get bored & go study a rock or something. :) :)

I couldn't find the EXACT location of Brown Mtn., it doesn't seem to be on this map, although Black Mtn. is. But I followed Hwy 181 up & got close. Depending upon exactly where the ridge is, it appears to consist of Granite, Gneiss, Schist, or Feldspar base, with Quartz or Quartzite layering.

But the VERY interesting thing is that there appears to be a major thrust fault (well...as major as N. Carolina gets) located etremely close to the mountain. These are known to be hot-spots for these lights & related events.

The image below is just a preview. If you need, or want, the big one, + the legend that explains the colors, go to my site linked below the picture. One that page you can either download both, or just save the pictures. I've included both there....links & the actual image.

Be warned, they are BIG, so it'll take a while to load. But I wanted to leave them full-size for detail.

P.S. While you're over there, click the button at top & play around in the rest of my site. I need the traffic. :) :)

Full size ones stay over here:

This geology info is very pertinent as it pertains to Michael Persinger's Earthlights. His theory stems around crystal deposits (always near granite) near a fault line. The seismic pressure on the crystal generates piezoelectricity (like in a radio) which could illuminate the nitrogen in the air to glow, just as a neon light does. Personally, I don't believe the mechanism behind the lights is this simple, though. So far, everyone has tried to measure the lights' visible EMR, but we need to measure the energy which is stimulating the emission, not the resulting emission or light. I know this would be far more expensive and complicated.

I have a few questions regarding the brown mountain lights.. I am doing a research project on them and any additional information would be great!

1.) What about the geology of the mountain area - how does this affect and create what the actual lights of brown mountain are?

2.) From a scientific viewpoint what is your opinion of what the brown mountain lights are such as extraterrestrials, reflections, science?

3.) Do you think that the Brevard Fault could be having minor shifts causing electricity from rubbing crystals?

Thank you for your input! It will be most interesting to hear ;D :-*
