Title: I-40's North Carolina visitor center @ the Tennessee state line!
Post by: Malaria_Kidd on October 30, 2007, 04:29:28 AM

This is a spot on I-40 West to spend some time near Waterville, North Carolina. Make sure it's 4:00 AM when you set out your lawn chair facing the parking lot toward the four lanes and the rock wall. I saw no ghost, but this happened to me. Something intervened affecting my life forever.

The cost is free except for the over priced gas you'd use.

I guess for starters. Just stare at the concrete on the West end of the little grassy area between the trucks and the cars and think of this story. Take some digi cam pics too while you're waiting for daylight. On second thought maybe I need to be sitting in a lawn chair too. I could narrate the story below. If this was my guardian angel as a ghostly spirit's intervention.

Worldwide, truck drivers tell tall tales, and 95% of them are true. We take most with a grain of salt of which some may be transporting that too. I bought and still own a SCANIA for transporting high grade logs.

In 1989 I was loaded with Illinois white oak veneer logs headed to eastern Virginia a 760 mile trip. It was 4:00 am as I pulled into the first rest area out of Tennessee at the North Carolina line. There was one spot left on the end next to a grassy median. Cars on the right, and trucks on the left. I pulled straight in behind a parallel parked semi-trailer rig and set the brake on my Swedish truck. One of 600 imported to the USA, and the only one with an aluminum hood guard.

I ate some cakes with milk, and to my amazement I perked up quickly. I noticed a truck coming in with his lights on bright. It stopped to my left, behind me. I said on the CB radio, " I'm ready to leave now. You can have my spot."

He said nothing so I reversed moving 80,000 lbs 6-8 feet. I stopped like hitting a wall! I'd hit the front of a truck that was mostly blocking the car entrance. I didn't see it pull in behind me! I got a sick feeling as I jammed the brake. The damage was done and I had 1.5 million safe miles.

I got my flashlight and wondered if there was a long log hanging over a bit,... I couldn't remember. There was no overhang, AND there was NO DAMAGE to the truck I just slammed! I lit it up,....nothing,....the fan blades should have been in the radiator,...it shouldn't be running,....it was!

I rubbed my hand over the smooth white metal. I looked for anti-freeze under the motor, none anywhere! The Caterpiller motor had it's familiar sound. It was in perfect shape and I was stunned!

The driver was in the rest area building and never came out during my wide eyed investigation. I kept saying to myself, "What do I tell him? I've hit your truck but there's no damage?" To my left a truck left a space open, and I pulled left to park there.

It was breaking dawn as I looked in my driver side mirror at the new white cabover Freightliner sitting there running. I laid my head down over the wheel to rest,...to wait. It was gone when I woke up 15 minutes later! I think about this everyday and night!

Folks? Hit an aluminum soda can with a hammer. If you cannot dent it. That is what happened to me, wide awake and impossible to do! I paid thousands of dollars for insurance and would never have pulled a hit and run. Like I mentioned above. I stayed there until the truck left the visitor center. ;)

Like my British friends have said. It was an angelic intervention delaying my trip, and avoiding an unknown danger in perfectly good driving weather. That is the only explanation I understand, but some have said it was a ghost driver's ghost truck. I did touch it and there was form to touch.

Simply weird and a hard to swallow true story. To this day I'm not sure why I stopped there. I was not that tired nor did I need to go in the visitor center. I never took anything to stay awake. That is illegal and I was tested randomly by Foley Labratory Services Inc., a Connecticut company.

In a repeat from last years e-mail to Art Bell's Ghost to Ghost, I've sent it to him again.

Comments? Questions? Or? Crickets?

This is my first and only post and I heard Joshua on with George Noory last night. What an hour of eye openers & with the news flash about the cool strobing glasses invention to see spirits! 8) :o

In an edit after Ghost to Ghost AM & Art Bell choosing 7-9 ghost story e-mails of maybe 1-2,000 entries. I'll try once again for an Open Line & I've held the phone "listening live" many times not picked to date.

Edited 7/1/08; The Coast 2 Coast AM screener has let me in twice the last several months. Twice the phone has went dead when Joshua was on live with George Noory. The truck was stationary and the cell phone tower's signal was tops.

I'll send this a third time next Halloween. Send this link to Art if you would. Guardian angels as intervening spirits were in a few e-mails read by Mr. Bell on his last Ghost to Ghost show.

Bill O'Rilley's No Spin Zone radio show got a touch of the paranormal going last night. He asked if Art Bell was still on the radio with paranormal topics. ;D He is a typical skeptic of same and said so. ;) ;D ;D

Thanks for allowing edits 24/7! I just noticed on 3/21/08 that I'd misspelled "guardian."

Edited again today 7/1/08 for the Google map straight to Haywood County along I-40. The rest area is on east a short ways. It looks bigger to me than I remember. The rest stop may have been redone since 1989.

You can view it pretty close via satellite here. The link below must be copied and pasted into your web browser.

:)Here is the story from near-by Asheville, NC that I had a few weird times getting cut off the line with George Noory and Joshua P. Warren chatting in my phone on hold during Coast to Coast AM.

It's named Scania Hit!, The Story of the Week 24-7, until further notice, on the little red radio from Mark Elvidge's

http://www.mysterial.org.uk/ here...

Mark is the keyboardist for Moscow For Pleasure, a UK based mild rock band. Look them up on You Tube soon! I really like their music.

In an edit noted below on the 25th of July in the year of 2011!! I just found out that Mark Elvidge owns this Web site too, linked over to the UK. I had thought it changed hands! Oops! Joshua should have him as a guest on Speaking of Strange!

http://www.theparanormalnews.com

England's live Glastonbury Radio follows THE PARANORMAL NEWS- END. It has English music and similar guests to Coast to Coast AM. "Now THAT'S Weird" is the program.

www.nowthatsweird.co.uk

Edited while listening to Coast to Coast AM's free Streamlink Weekend.

Ross Hemsworth of "Now THAT'S Weird" radio in the UK will be a Coast to Coast AM guest Monday night June 15, 2009 with George Noory.

Or here with a 70's SCANIA log rig in Norway with sound ambiance...

http://www.theparanormalnews.com/Archives

Now as the views race runs on let me slip in an edit of interest to some. I gave this tip to Ross last week. I doubt the web site's owner will agree to be on "Now THAT'S Weird." ???

http://www.dianamystery.com

Pass this one around PDQ and if you do reply here to my thread. Give that last link a mention too! 8)

You might want to read this one too from the L.E.M.U.R. Team's Paranormal Discussion Board on page 4.

Edited now related to a post in "Paranormal Discussion Board."

For sure geldor, this happening took place in Haywood county! ;)

Title: Re:I-40's North Carolina visitor center @ the Tennessee state line!
Post by: MalariaKidd on September 4, 2009, 08:09:31 AM

Last Wednesday evening a Toyota parts trucking trip allowed me to pass thru western North Carolina on Intersate 40 East of Waterville, Harmon Den Road and thru two tunnels. At the 10 mile marker a rest area sign for my sore eyes came into view. ;D

So my non accident was not really that close to the Tennessee State line. :-\

I hoped there would be at least one parking spot for my Falcon International tractor with it's 53 foot trailer. Low and behold there was just one spot left on the West end! ;D

The parking lot was exactly the same to the left of the newer welcome center. Everything else was all re-done including an enlargement for parking. The grounds were landscaped nicely. For me there was an air about the place. 8)

To my amazment there was another rest area across the highway that I did not remember. In 1989 I thought I remembered a rock wall there with chain link fencing placed high to keep rocks from falling on the pavement. I bet it was there at that time and I failed to even notice it after my experience! ;)

Since the Kersey, Pennsylvania veneer log haulers told me to stay in Virginia to get to South Hill. I had not been back that way in twenty years. My memory of the curvy section of I-40 leading to the North Carolina Welcome Center was all fuzzy. :-\

I got an empty bottle of 5 Hour Energy and with my knife I broke the soil loose near the curb. I filled the bottle with soil right from the spot where I hit the Freightliner. 8)

I was glad to be back there! 8)

MK Cody Indiana

I heard a great show last night on Coast to Coast AM. Joshua was on with George the last hour! ;D

:o What an eye opener for my sore truckin' eyes!

From Coast's daily Newsletter....

Last hour guest, paranormal investigator Joshua P. Warren shared updates on some of his latest projects, including his testing of a " psychotronic wheel," which showed some telekinetic properties under glass. Joshua, who has a new book just out, The Secret Wisdom of Kukulkan, will be making one-hour weekly appearances on C2C, George announced.

I can't modify the link in post # 1 for this web site about the paranormal in the USA. At Strange USA there is a Google Earth map of the remodeled welcome center. If you have stopped there let me know.

That web site goes with "Weird Stuff to Do"--Travel Tips!

That maps satellite pic is the best I have found. Google Earth's Ground View mainly shows the Welcome To North Carolina sign on I-40. Then well down the road you can follow the yellow arrows > > > > that stop well short of the rest area. :-\

At the map of the USA click on North Carolina and then find Waterville's only entry. That will take you to a Google Earth map as a direct link would not go for some reason.

http://www.strangeusa.com/Default.aspx

Here is the truck that went bump in the night. Along with my wonderful daughter. I am holding a huge leaf of the royal paulownia tree. These trees grow along I-40 in Western North Carolina. The paulownia logs we hauled were exported to Japan. Where another common name for the tree is the princess tree. ;)

Here is some alternate news: In the USA the royal paulownia tree may have set an unpublished record for the price per board foot @ $36.00. One of the best black walnut veneer logs was priced @ $24.00. It went to the Atlantic Veneer Company in Beaufort, North Carolina. :-\

My now missing pic probably used too many pixels and it went zip which is fine. ;D

I travel that road all the time. It is creepy creepy late at night. My wife and I were making a get out of town run to Gatlinburg one night after work and we passed through about midnight. We were near the rest area when we rounded a curve and drove through yes through a herd of goats. I screamed and swerved and didn't hit anything. When I slowed down and pulled over I looked at my wife. She asked me if I saw goats too. We looked back. There weren't any goats.???????????? We broke a few speed limits getting back to civilization. PS we don't drink or do drugs. I don't believe in ghosts. I'm confused.

Hello Jim, I bet you are not far from Haywood County.

Edited Sunday evening; At Strange USA linked above I found Brevard South of Asheville. Brevard is represented with one UFO sighting at Strange USA on the NC map with cities listed. Likewise Waterville has one story of the weird kind,....SCANIA Hit! ;D

That story is wild and you both witnessed it together. Great and supernat all the way. We can wonder if more goat herds are run thru on that curvy road. Or if more tricks are played on unsuspecting drivers that we will never know about. :o Joshua and company should spend more night times wandering that area of Haywood County! It is not far from Asheville by a long shot!

I was all eyes when I got your post! Steve Quayle is asking more about this story at L.E.M.U.R. He wants it sent in PDF form? My son says it's too much trouble. So I mailed it all to Lex Lonehood at Coast. I hope he sends it on to Bozeman, Montana.

Scratch that idea; Mark Elvidge at Mysterial was kind enough to send to the Q Factor as a PDF PDQ!! ;D

http://users.boardnation.com/~shadowboxent/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=1890

I still lean toward a spirit guide unknown to me doing a miracle beside that sandy, black soil above here. ;)

Jim, I am glad we have that rest area in common. Yes, it is a creepy area where "The infamous Gorge" lies in wait for a night of freezing rain or snow. Hmm! :-\ :'(

Ghostly goats and a white cabover truck.... :o

Let's post up some more wild stuff. If someone posts here I will reply as I look everyday..... ;)

Hello guys!

A few miles of Interstate 40 eastbound were narrowed to one lane due to repairs to some damage caused by a rockslide. This area is common ground for rockslides. One such occurrence closed Interstate 40 for several weeks in 1997. This was prior to the completion of Interstate 26 between Johnson City and Asheville, which caused many headaches driving on winding and steep two-lane roads.

Hello back to Kesha32,

We can't mention the name enough, The Gorge on I-40, and it is famous nationwide. Ranking with the infamous stretches of US highways where death comes to unaware motorists and truckers. Like Wolf Creek Pass, Mont Eagle, and Black Mountain to name just three more.

Snow and ice on highways is a given in North Carolina. Just as you enter Tennessee you will wonder where it all went!

In the Winter of 1989 I reloaded at South Hill, Virginia and trucked out a load of veneer backing boards West through The Gorge during an eight plus inch snowfall. Two or three of the truck wrecks in the mountains looked as if the trucker must have died. There were lots of cars messed up too! I made it through with much caution. My spirit guide must have aided my SCANIA 112M.

Then there was the time in February 1994. That we came out of Western Kentucky headed for New Albany, Indiana. With white oak veneer logs trucked over 90 miles of thick black ice (hard rain in 23 degrees temp), but that is another story of my angel guide's help.

I was not aware of all the rock slides and treacherous two lane detours. Heck! I am not even aware of the new Interstate 26 between Johnson City and Asheville. :-\

I wonder if JimPetersenBrevard has more great stories? The impossible seems to happen around The Gorge!

It makes my day and night to get posts here. Even though my true story of the weird kind does not get a mention. ;D

In an edit this morning 10/15/10; Here is a request to any one of the 21,685 good members. Please send this link or a copy of post # 1 to Art Bell for his Ghost to Ghost show on Halloween Night.

artbell@mindspring.com

He does read ghost-like Guiding Angel stories sent in for that night. I will send it to him again as usual. I hope this idea works well and I will be tuned in like some of you so dedicated here. ;D

The time I noted above was 4:00 AM but on Eastern Time it would have been 5:00 AM. Without my weird experience and delay the drive time would have put my loaded rig into Asheville's rush hour traffic!

It's all true what the UK robot once told here. Those links are not active anymore. :-\

Note: If you copy and paste this in an e-mail. Please start where it says, "Worldwide truck drivers tell tall tales....."

Another edit at 7:53 CST I just sent this story to Art Bell in Manila. ;)

You may not know this, but part of that section of I-40 is dedicated to Trooper Giles Harmon with the NC Highway Patrol. He was murdered back in the 1980s on the side of the road out there.

I think your "accident" was to keep something really bad from happening to you somewhere down the line. The paranormal and God work in mysterious ways.

Many thanks for this post BamberC and WELCOME to you this Halloween! My granddaughter in Florida celebrated her birthday yesterday on Halloween.

I am aware of Harmon Den Rd that is fairly close to the welcome center. That is always sad when a state trooper dies along a busy road. But he was murdered!? I am sorry for him and his family. It took way too long for state laws to place signs making traffic move over for the emergency workers.

Art Bell just repeated a well known message on Ghost to Ghost, "Ghosts seem to always appear at the scene of tragic deaths."

BamberC that morning I was inside one of the toughest truck cabs in America. A Swedish truck safety law required placing (gently) a 30,000 lb aluminum block on top of a test truck's cab. The doors must still function! SCANIA and VOLVO test weights at 33,000 lbs!

Yes, on the mysterious ways. Or maybe it could have been a car with passenger(s) so innocent headed to work, well ahead of my big load of logs. Now related to a single life or lives still residing in North Carolina's mysterious mountains. ;) Black Mountain is another famous hazard on that interstate highway.

MK :)

Many Thanks! to any active member who sent this wild one to Art in Manila! ;D

Here's how my true story went in Scotland at Unexplained Mysteries. And before it got it's deep layer of UM dust I got into minor battles with an idiot skeptic. He came pc flying into the battle unarmed! ;D :D

Mark Elvidge's robot is back to work! Mark is the keyboardist for the UK rock band Moscow.

The story of the week SCANIA Hit! And it is the only story heard and I just happened to click the link at my few posts at Unexplained Mysteries.

The old red radio must have been retired. Click on the Power and Control box. This is the same link found at the top of this true story. But just in case stay with this one.

Title: He's back telling this again......!
Post by: MalariaKidd on May 11, 2011, 09:00:33 PM

Hey Vance!

This is the one that I had weird bad luck trying to tell Joshua and George Noory on Coast to Coast AM. I last talked to George about four months ago. I brought up Frank Edwards' book called "Strange World".

The plant guards were tuned in anyway. Heck, I might have gotten fired for telling this one. There is only a select few fellow drivers that I have told to date.

It seems that Mysterial's Mark Elvidge has re-greased and re-activated his robot. ; He may have let this next website go to anther party. A paranormal party! Mark's red radio at Mysterial was once at this link...

It's a new one for folks interested in the unknown. I have it bookmarked, again! ;)

http://www.theparanormalnews.com

Now I am off to Tullahoma, Tennessee for brand new padded dashboards. So "Buckle Up" everyone, so you won't have to test your dash's padding!

:P

Oddly this link goes to space occupied by the old time ghostly red radio. That's not there anymore! LOL

Like before everyone may have to turn it on by clicking power control...

Follow along word for word in the much older UK version....

Worldwide lorry drivers tell tall tales, and 95% of them are true. We take most with a grain of salt of which some may be transporting that too. I bought and still own a SCANIA for transporting the best trees Mother Nature can grow.

In 1989 I was loaded with International Veneer Company's Illinois white oak headed to South Hill, Virginia a 760 mile trip. The near perfect logs were individually tagged and waxed. It was 4:00 am as I pulled into the first rest area out of Tennessee at the North Carolina line east of Waterville.

There was one spot left on the end next to a grassy median. Cars on the right and lorries on the left. I pulled straight in and set the brake on my Swedish lorry. One of 600 imported to the USA, and the only one with an aluminum tubing and wire brush guard.

I ate some cakes with milk, and to my amazement I perked up quickly. I noticed a lorry coming in with his lights on bright then stopping to my left behind me. I said on the CB radio, " I'm ready to leave now you can have my spot." He said nothing so I reversed moving 80,000 lbs 6-8 feet. I stopped like hitting a wall!! I'd hit the front of a lorry that was mostly blocking the car entrance. I didn't see it pull in behind me! I got a sick feeling as I jammed the brake. The damage was done and I had 1.5 million safe miles.

I got my flashlight and wondered if there was a long log hanging over a bit. I couldn't remember. There was no overhang, AND there was no damage to the truck I'd just slammed! I lit it up,....nothing,....the radiator should have been in the fan,...it shouldn't be running,....it was! I rubbed my hand over the smooth white metal. I looked for anti-freeze under the motor,....none anywhere! The Caterpiller motor had it's familiar sound. It was in perfect shape and I was stunned!

The driver was in the rest area building and never came out during my wide eyed investigation. I kept saying to myself, "What do I tell him? I've hit your lorry but there's no damage?" To my left a lorry rig left a space open, and I pulled left to park there.

It was breaking dawn as I looked at the white new cabover Freightliner sitting there running. I laid my head down over the wheel to rest,...to wait. It was gone when I woke up 15 minutes later! I still think about this every day and night!
________________________________________________________________________________

Folks? Hit an aluminum soda can with a hammer. If you cannot dent it. That is what happened to me, wide awake and impossible to do!

Like my British friends have said. This could have been an angelic intervention delaying my trip, and avoiding an unknown danger in perfectly good driving weather! That is the only explanation I understand, but some have said it was a ghost driver's ghostly lorry. But at least I did touch it and there was form to touch.

Our little company was paying for random drug testing by a Connecticut company called Foley Laboratory Services, Inc. I did not take anything to stay awake. Remember, I was wide awake at the time this happened! Near the North Carolina border with the mysterious Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This is my personal haunting of, "What in the heck happened that morning??"

:o

Post by: dscher on June 18, 2011, 09:14:27 AM

I'm very familiar with that section of I-40. About 1988 - 89, a friend of mine and I were on our way to go whitwater rafting up at Nantahala. We were so engrossed in our conversation, I missed my turn at Hwy 19 and kept going on I - 40. It was very late at night and very dark, not much traffic. All of a sudden we realized we were in the gorge area, a few miles before you get to Tennessee. There was NO place to turn around so we had to drive quite a ways before we could turn around to head back in the right direction. The road is different now than it was back then. There were cliffs on either side of us and all of a sudden we saw a man standing in the middle of the road. I slowed down to keep from hitting him. He looked right at us as I drove past. It was about 20 minutes before I got turned around and headed back the other way. We never saw him again. It was weird.

dscher,

How strange and I hope more come in here with spooky happening like yours. I-40's interchanges and cross overs are few in number along the Gorge, the spooky Gorge! Hitchhiking is not legal on the interstates. The Gorge's concrete divider in the center has few openings for emergency traffic to use. Now we see in many states, 3 cables strung for miles doing the same thing. I suppose that keeps traffic from tangling in the opposite direction. I am all about highway safety and it seems the ghosts out there on I-40 can never go home! :o

I appreciate your contribution and Vance does too. As we members who have contributed here need to keep the place fresh as a ghost's disappearing footprints! ;D

There have been many, many wrecks in the gorge area over the years. Could it have been some poor soul who died in a wreck?

Well Cody, there is more mysterious happenings in the I-40 Pigeon River Gorge. Today, I was on my way back to Asheville after spending 5 days in Gatlinburg, TN. I stopped at the NC visitor's center for a quick break. I got back on the road and soon noticed, in my rear view mirror, an 18 wheeler right behind me. The cab was green in color. I looked forward to the highway and then glanced in the rear view mirror again. The truck was gone! It didn't pass me, nor were there any exits to take. Even if it had slowed down, there was not enough time for it to be out of my sight. There were no vehicles behind me so I could see back a good ways. I remembered your story and slowed down a bit. I did make it home to Asheville safe and sound.

Oh mercy sakes alive! :o This action of yours was in a notice via e-mail and I came here right off the bat! I never dreamed it would have been from you, since you were the last dedicated member to post in this weird Pigeon River Gorge account of mine from eighty-nine!

That was so weird owlwoman and this sort of truckin' phenomenon is not out for blood thank goodness!

You have joined the North Carolina "I-40 Lost Highway Club" with me and others who have posted above here. 8) I hope there will be more someday with their spooky stories on that crazy stretch of the Eisenhower Expressway System numbered I-40 East in "The Gorge!"

We all are happy you arrived safely and you will never forget that green eighteen wheeler! ;) I will show this to my family members PDQ.

Here is a post script to all who read this in an edit.

I sent this story once more to Coast to Coast AM for Ghost to Ghost on Halloween night. So far I have not been contacted and I doubt that I will get a phone call. It would have helped greatly if I had seen a ghost at that spooky welcome center West of Asheville. A herd of white ghostly goats would have been spooky too!

Oh well! There is always next year or maybe this Friday night on Open Lines will get it told. ;)

After I hopefully am finally able to tell George Noory "The Ode to Monsanto's CEO!"

That could be the case owlwoman, but how could a ghost bring a vehicle back in factory new, solid spirit form, that was crashed into the rocks of Pigeon River Gorge? ???

Over in the UK the paranormal experts tell us autos, trucks and ships are ghostly too! ;)

:o 8) At the very least when we encounter one of the above, they are harmless to us. :)

Title: My NC story finally told on the radio!
Post by: MalariaKidd on December 8, 2011, 04:18:13 AM

Here is the Tuesday night show from Pop Odyssey Radio in Nashville, Tennessee.

A little bit past center on the sound bar host Stephen Wren opened my call. I was not tuned in from the highway since the show is on line radio only. :-\

When Stephen Wren introduces his guest host Phil Roell listen early on for him to say, "......things go bump in the night." That line fits this true account to a big T! ;D

The sound bar is working OK here! ;) Minimize the screen and keep surfing the paranormal phenomenon around us all!

At least I finally told this true story on the radio. Time to move on down the Lost Highways.

Our interstate highways, state roads and rural roads are haunted. I have heard many spooky haunted road trips told on Coast to Coast AM.

Now let's see how haunted the roads are in the UK..... :o

MORE HAUNTED ROADS

A64 between York and Norton england Uk
Traditionally haunted by the spirit of Nance, who is said to guide travellers when there are dense mists. The story goes that she was due to marry a mail-coach driver but fell for the charms of a highwayman. He turned out to be a bad choice, as he left her and their baby to die of exposure on the lonely road.

Directions: A64 is to the North of York, between York and Norton.
--------------------------------------------------------------

A4076 Road Ghost Wales UK

The following story of a 'Road Ghost' on the A4076 at Steynton appeared in a Wales media column, on the 7 August 2011. It had been written by a Robin Turner, and was entitled ' Paranormal experts investigate reports of ghostly figure appearing at Pembrokeshire crossroads'. The article reads ......~

PARANORMAL investigators are looking into reports of a haunted crossroads and phantom crash victim spooking drivers on a lonely Welsh road.

A number of worried motorists who believe they have hit a woman on the rural A4076, near Haverfordwest, have left their cars to find no-one injured, and no trace of anyone who may have been in the roadway.

Around half a dozen confused drivers have contacted paranormal investigation group Pembrokeshire Beyond after encountering the mystery figure between the Pembrokeshire villages of Johnston and Steynton. But one of the group's investigators, Shaun Sables, says he believed many more motorists may have come across the ghostly road casualty. He states ~

"We have had around six people contacting us with the same story in the past year or so,"

"It's something we really need to investigate. They all report getting a glimpse of a woman in the corner of their eye as they approach the crossroads.

Then they are convinced they have hit somebody or something, they get out of their cars but find nothing."

Andy Chandler, another of the Pembrokeshire Beyond team received one of the reports earlier this year.

He said: "This story takes place between Johnston and Steynton in a dip in the road before the road rises up to the crossroads near The Horse And Jockey pub.

"A car full of X Factor fans on the way back from a concert crossed the small bridge at the foot of the hill.

"Suddenly the driver slammed the brakes on because she was sure she'd hit a young female with her car.

"Two of the of the four passengers were awake and also reported seeing the young female and feeling the car jolt as if impacted by something or someone.

"The driver left the vehicle to search for the poor unfortunate she thought she'd hit but was unable to locate her.

"Puzzled she began searching the vehicle for signs of damage... not a scratch, even though two other occupants of the vehicle had also felt the impact and saw the shape of a female hit the car and bounce off into the night. Did she hit a ghost? Was it the last moments of someone's life being replayed across time?" Mr Sables said the Pembrokeshire Beyond team planned to carry out an investigation at the spot.

He said: "It's hard to say what could be happening but a lot of people have reported the feeling that they have hit a pedestrian and that the pedestrian is a woman. It definitely needs to be looked into."

On 19th August 2011 this further article appeared in the Western Telegraph Newspaper entitled 'Yet another spooky encounter reported along haunted road'. A Milford Haven taxi driver was left spooked last week after an encounter on the same stretch of road where a phantom crash victim has reportedly been worrying motorists.

Steven Davies was returning to Milford Haven from a taxi run just after 11.30pm last Wednesday night when the figure, dressed in black 18th century costume with a white head scarf, ran in front of him on the, forcing him to slam on his brakes.

Mr Davies, a driver for Kitty Cabs, said: “My headlights were on full beam and this figure just appeared on the white road line and ran straight across the road in front of me down towards the farm lane.’ Paranormal investigators Pembrokeshire Beyond have opened a case file on the stretch of road after receiving a number of reports from worried motorists.

Mr Davies said he was left startled by the experience and was unaware of the recent publicity surrounding the reported paranormal sightings until he shared his experience with colleagues and family members .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A595 and The Muncaster Boggle

The A595 road running past Muncaster Castle from near Barrow in Furness to Carlisle has a long tradition of being haunted by the ghost of a Mary Bragg.

What is probably the earliest story of this road being haunted appeared in an 1870 pamphlet entitled ‘The Muncaster Boggle’ written by J Burroughs and published by Callander & Dixon of Whitehaven.

The Story goes ........

On the morning of the first of May, 1862, I started in a gig from Holborn Hill, intending to do a little business at Kirksanton, Sylecroft, and Bootle, and arrive at Ravenglass in good time in the evening, but having been kept rather longer than usual at Bootle, I found I had lost the tide, so I was obliged to travel round by Seaton and Corney. The day had been exceedingly sultry, so I jogg'd leisurely along, enjoying the beautiful landscape before me. The evening tide was running up the Esk as bright and smooth as glass, like some gigantic mirror, in which was reflected the uplands and forest trees, inverted as if by magic, or as though they had agreed to all dip together to refresh after the heat of the day. The birds were singing each his own favourite song to cheer up his mate, very likely sitting on her eggs at that season of the year; and the ploughmen were whistling after their teams returning home from their labour- altogether it was a picture of peace and rural contentment; but on the opposite side, away to the east, I observed a threatening black cloud rising over the fells from Ulpha and Coniston, and though I could hear occasional sounds of distant thunder, I could not avoid watching the capricious manner of the clouds' progress; sometimes the whole mass would advance swiftly and steadily, then little bolting spiral vapours would fly off in all directions, like scouts before an approaching army! then again the main body would move on and expand quicker and blacker, until the whole horizon was envelop'd in a dense, thick darkness, not at all like the usual darkness of night, but a dismal, heavy, horrible darkness, I suppose something like the Plague darkness that was inflicted upon Egypt- a darkness that could be felt. the rolling thunder kept approaching still nearer and louder, and the lightnings were flashing in my eyes incessantly, leaving their zigzag lines for a few seconds on the sides of the hills, like a mysterious warning handwriting on the wall.

A little beyond the Muncaster bridge, I overtook an old man who seemed rather lame. I drew up to him, and, after the customary saalutation about the threatening appearance of the weather and such like, I inquired how far he was going? "Wey I'se gean heam," says he "what for?" Well, I said, I only wished to know if he was going much further my road. "Wey than" says he, "Ise gaen ta Rebbenglass if ye mun know." I rather liked the cautious though surly and independent bearing of the old fellow, so I told him I was most anxious to have a guide, as I had never been that road before to Ravenglass, and begged him, as a great favour, to take a seat beside me in the trap. "Wey than" says he "if ye want somebody to show ye't wey I'll dea that for ye, and thank ye fer't lift ano, fer Ise nin sa lish at wokin- so I gave him a hand, and we toiled on slowly up the hill towards Muncaster, watching the repeated flashes, and listening to the rolling discharges of the near approaching thunder.

"By and bye," says the old man, "I think it wadn't be an unlikely time fer't Munkister Boggle to be stirran, sic a neet as this, if it be tely fwore yet." "What do you mean by Muncaster Boggle," I eagerly inquired, "and what is it?" "Wey that is a capper," says he, "if ye'v niver hard tell o't Munkister Boggle, bit yan hes hard them set et ye book-larn'd fwoke hed nowt else off." And on my admitting my ignorance, and that I should like to hear some account of the mysterious boggle, he thus began: "Yo'l mind than, what ise gaen to tell ye happen't gaely near sebbenty year sen- Mr. Grice was't parson at Drigg and Irton, an' he leev't at that time in yon girt hoos, at Rebbenglass, at old Mrs. Thomson leeves in noo; an' he hed a hooskeeper at they coa't Mary Bragg, she was as nice a lass as ever step't, an' a gay canny deacent young chap they coa't John Pike'tho coortit her, an thout a gay bit on her an o; he was't hoos steward fer Lord Munkister; bit Miss Littledel 't hooskeeper ar 't Cassel, thout just as much o him, an was gaely jelles at poor lass, fer she wantit em o tul hersell. It sooa happen't at t' Priest fwoke went off a visitan an hed ta be away fer o lock o days, than Miss Littledel teak a kashon ta gang ta Whitehebben aboot 't seam time, an she hire't Scot, 't hack shaise keeper ta drive her heam agean ta Munkister, an that was o reet eneuf if things hed nobbet stop't thear; bit aboot yan o'clock at mwornin, Scot and yan Kit Gale 't cwoachman at 't Cassel, dreave 't seam shaise throo Rebbenglass street, turn't aboot on t' scar an dreave up agean tul Mr. Grice duer, than they nock't poor Mary Bragg up, an perswadit her at John Pike'tho hed been tean varra bad, an was like ta dee; an she mud gang than and thear if she wantit ta see him alive, seea she just lock't up duer an tie't key tull her brat string, an jump't intult shaise an set off, lal thinkan what was ta happen."

Just then we were pulling up a short steep part of the road through the Muncaster wood, and as we were in the act of passing under an old spreading oak, there shot forth the most fearful flash of lightning I ever witnessed; it was like a solid flame of fire, which filled the whole forest, and so intensely bright that even the smallest twigs were as visible as at mid-day, and the next instant a dreadful thunder-clap began crackling and crashing right over our heads, as if the very heavens were coming down upon us to destroy us "in the twinkling of an eye." I was really terrified, I fairly crouched down, and crep't into my shell, if I may use that metaphor,- but rousing up again a little, I began to think of the real danger of being under the trees at such a time, and was just on the point of giving the horse a little taste of the whip, when my fellow traveller seized the reins, and at the same time cried "wohoy!" Well if I was afraid before, I was now completely palzied with fear, the shock was so very sudden and unexpected. "Wey man," says the old fellow, "ye need'nt be sa scar't, I tell ye thear will'nt as much as a singel cushet tummel fra a tree this neet, widout God bids it, an I warrent ye beath ye an me 'el dee in oor beds efter o this."- and the old man bowed down his head- "bit it was'nt ta tell ye that at I stop't t horse, for" says he, "I've stopt' ta tell ye , at we er just stannen on't varra spot whore poor Mary Bragg com be her deeath; it was just here at tean o them hellish scoundrels jamp intelt shaise beside her, and when she was aboot screaman oot murder, he ram'd his pistol, intul her mouth and blew her brains oot."

It just then commenced raining, so we wrapped up, and as I was quite put out of the humour of asking any more questions, I allowed the old man to keep the reins, and drive down to Ravenglass, which he did skilfully and quickly. It was a perfect deluge before we alighted at Wallace's; however we got housed as smartly as possible, and had our clothes changed and sat down by a comfortable fire. I then ordered tea and chops for two, and after we had partaken of the good things provided for us, I begged the old man to finish his horrid tale. "Wey bit mappen ye nay think Ise leean," says he, "bit I know my words is gaely nar't spot, fer o it niver was mead oot quite clear, at 't time it happen't; bit suer aneuf efter them fellows hed kill't 't poor lass, they teak her doon intult hags, they likely thout she wad niver be fund tull't dogs hed gean wi her o tegidder; bit it happen't et a lad they coa't Joe Brockbank fand her 't next day, when he went to fodder some stricks, an he ran an tell't old Beatman 't gardner, an Dubbleby, 't gamekeeper, an they order't hem at his parrel ta tell neabody net a singel word aboot it, er they wad o be coa't up, an thear wad be a terrible flare up, an mebby o be hanged; hooiver 't nesh't neet she was hidden agean, an she was latit beath hee an low fer lang, tull at last some o them spiet her claes wavan about, in a girt wholl in 't Esk beck, just aboon't steps, her body was quite sandit up; efter that she was brout doon tul Bill Jonson's, at t' Fish public hoose."

The old man here seemed a little affected and paused to take breath and another taste from his glass, when I took the opportunity to say I hoped the cold-blooded murderers were justly and severely punished for the dreadful crime. "Nout at mak," says he, "things was carrit on quite in a different way than tull what they er noo-a-days. There was a swort ev a Crowner's Quest Jury held oor her, bit Docter Bragg an Taylear cudn't be gitten ta say whedder she hed been shot, er droon't, she hed been liggan sa lang in't watter; an her heed med ha been crush'd amang 't steans er chig'd wid eels, fer out they could tell; bit it was whisper't they'd gitten a gay penny fer sayan that. The A75, Kinmount Straight, Scotland Uk

Hauntings on the A75 Kinmount Straight in South West Scotland Uk have led to it being called 'the Ghost Road.' Here is a list of some of the ghostly sightings seen along this route.

1957
A lorry driver ran into a couple crossing the road arm-in-arm in front of his lorry, but when he stopped the accident victims had vanished: sometime in 1957.

1962
Derek and Norman Ferguson were driving along the A75 near Kinmount, around midnight, when a large hen flew towards their window screen, but vanished on the point of impact. The hen was followed by an old lady who ran towards the car waving her outstretched arms. She was followed by a screaming man with long hair and further animals, including 'great cats, wild dogs, goats, more hens and other fowl, and stranger creatures', who all disappeared. The temperature then dropped, and when the brothers stopped the car, it began to sway violently back and forth. Derek got out of the car and the movement stopped. He climbed back in and then, finally, a vision of a furniture van came towards them before disappearing.

1970's
A group of Eastriggs women saw a 'weird' looking phantom or creature' on the Kinmount straight

1995 March
Garson and Monica Miller of Annan were driving east on the Kinmount section of the A75, near Annan, when they saw someone in their path. It was the figure of a middle aged man, wearing a hessian sack folded over his head and his hands were outstretched towards the direction of the car, with what looked like a rag in his hand. Driving at 60mph the couple were convinced they had hit the man, and reversed back to the spot, but the figure had gone. the incident was reported to the police in Annan.

1997 July
Donna Maxwell, 27, was convinced she had hit a man in the road whilst driving along the A75 near Swordwellrig with her two children. Travelling at 50 mph she saw the man jump out in front of her, about two feet in front of her car. He was in his 30's, with short hair, wearing a red top and dark trousers. She braked hard, involuntarily closing her eyes and bracing for impact. When she opened her eyes, the car had stopped but there was no sign of the man. She contacted the police and the area was searched but there was no evidence of an accident. A description of the accident issued to the media a week later failed to provide any further explanation of the accident.

Now I will go back to the UK for another similar listing. So stand-by for some more alternative news from their Lost Highways.

Title: UK Lost Highways!!
Post by: MalariaKidd on March 3, 2012, 09:13:04 PM

Britain's spookiest roads

The M6 has been named Britain's most haunted road in a new Halloween survey.

The M6's spooky reputation follows with reports of phantom Roman soldiers, a ghostly woman and a lorry driving against the flow of traffic.

Motorists have also reported eyes looking out from bushes in Platt Lane, Leigh, Manchester - the scene of a mining disaster years previously.

The A9 in the Highlands was the second most haunted after a family reported seeing an ornate coach and horses, along with bewigged footmen.

The road appears again at number eight in the list, produced by Tarmac, following a sighting of a Victorian-clad man on a horse at The Mound between Dornoch and Golspie.

There were reports of a phantom dog on Great Yarmouth High Street and ghostly children playing in Gloucester Road, Finsbury Park, north London.

A guardian angel voice allegedly alerted a woman driver of an out-of-control car on the B4293 in Devauden in Wales and a lady in Victorian dress was reportedly spotted on the B3314 near Tintagel in Cornwall.

Tony Simmons, sightings co-ordinator for Tarmac, said: "We compiled the top 10 on the basis of the clarity of sightings rather than just the number of spooky experiences.

"At this time of year it's easy to mistake swirling mist for something more sinister and we wanted to make sure we were listing truly spooky sightings."

The spooky top ten in full:

1 The M6

2 The A9 in the Highlands

3 Platt Lane, Leigh, Manchester

4 High Street and Suffield Road in Great Yarmouth

5 Gloucester Drive, Finsbury Park, north London

6 The B4293 at Devauden, Wales

7 The B3314 near Tintagel, Cornwall

8 The Mound, on the A9 near Dornoch

9 The B1403 near Doncaster, South Yorkshire

10 Drews Lane, Ward End, Birmingham

Are you familiar with the Hairy Hands of Dartmoor? I had read about it in a legends/lore book when in 6th grade. I had forgotten all about it until I read this post. I ran a google search (not knowing what I'd find when I type in "hairy hands" into an internet search) and came up with this. It looks as though the myth was disproven, but some interesting stories came out of it.

:o Thanks to you Joe, we are aware now! 8) This website is real slow handed it's self moving from one screen to the other. It must be the spooky weather we're havin'. :D

In closing we can be glad this inching along thread originating from western North Carolina's VERY SPOOKY Pigeon River Gorge, jogged your memory from the 6th grade to now. Thanks for posting the story I was not familiar with and I hope everyone is spooked from reading it like I was.

Now we know why tiny crosses are worn about the neck, or the reason why crosses and Mother Mary statues are affixed to a vehicles dash board, besides for blessing one's safe driving practices. ;)

Any inter dimensional enity OUT THERE must suffer from space boredom! :P

I just sent this in to Amy Newmark who is the author for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books!

http://www.chickensoup.com

I had never heard of her books. So this true 1989 truck bashing West of Asheville will mix it up with thousands of fresh submissions. Wish me luck!

Good morning to Amy on another great Coast show with George Noory,

Worldwide truck drivers tell tall tales, and 95% of them are true. We take most with a grain of salt of which some may be transporting that too. I bought and still own a SCANIA for transporting the best trees Mother Nature can grow.

In 1989 I was loaded with International Veneer Company's Illinois white oak headed for South Hill, Virginia a 760 mile trip. The near perfect logs were individually tagged and waxed on the ends. It was 4:00 am as I pulled into I-40's first rest area out of Tennessee after the North Carolina state line east of Waterville at the 10 mile post.

There was one spot left on the end next to a grassy median where cars were parked on the right and semi-trucks were parked on the left. I pulled straight in and set the brake on my Swedish truck. One of 600 imported to the USA, and the only one with an aluminum tubing brush guard.

I ate some cakes with milk, and to my amazement I perked up quickly. I noticed a truck coming in with his lights on bright, then stopping to my left behind me. I said on the CB radio, "I'm ready to leave now you can have my spot." He said nothing so I reversed moving 80,000 lbs 6-8 feet. I stopped like hitting a wall! I'd hit the front of a truck that was mostly blocking the car entrance! I didn't see it pull in behind me! I got a sick feeling as I jammed the brake. The damage was done and I had 1.5 million safe miles!

I got my flashlight and wondered if there was a long log hanging over. The Caterpillar motor had it's familiar sound. It was in perfect shape and I was stunned!

The driver was in the rest area building and never came out during my wide eyed investigation. I kept saying to myself, "What do I tell him? I've hit your truck but there's no damage?" To my left I saw an open space, and I pulled left to park there.

It was breaking dawn as I looked at the white new cab over Freightliner sitting there. I laid my head down over the wheel to rest,......to wait. It was gone when I woke up 15 minutes later and I still think about this every day and night!

Amy here is the unedited UK version thankfully spoken by Mark Elvidge's robotic voice in London.

http://www.theparanormalnews.com/Archives

I do believe my Guardian Angel or someone's Guardian Angel delayed my log rig from a potential bad wreck during Asheville, NC's I-40 rush hour.

Cody in Indiana and thanks for your great Chicken Soup for the Soul books. 8)

Sing along with Red ooosyadady and this is a great example of a truck driving song. One with a very spooky ending for a trucker's ghost story! :o

"PHANTOM 309" by Red Sovine of Tennessee

I was out on the West Coast, tryin' to make a buck
And things didn't work out, I was down on my luck
Got tired a-roamin' and bummin' around
So I started thumbin' back East, toward my home town.

Made a lot of miles, the first two days
And I figured I'd be home in week, if my luck held out this way
But, the third night I got stranded, way out of town
At a cold, lonely crossroads, rain was pourin' down.

I was hungry and freezin', done caught a chill
When the lights of a big semi topped the hill
Lord, I sure was glad to hear them air brakes come on
And I climbed in that cab, where I knew it'd be warm.

At the wheel sat a big man, he weighed about two-ten
He stuck out his hand and said with a grin
"Big Joe's the name", I told him mine
And he said: "The name of my rig is Phantom 309."

I asked him why he called his rig such a name
He said: "Son, this old Mack can put 'em all to shame
There ain't a driver, or a rig, a-runnin' any line
Ain't seen nothin' but taillights from Phantom 309."

Well, we rode and talked the better part of the night
When the lights of a truck stop came in sight
He said: "I'm sorry son, this is as far as you go
'Cause, I gotta make a turn, just on up the road."

Well, he tossed me a dime as he pulled her in low
And said: "Have yourself a hot cup on old Big Joe."
When Joe and his rig roared out into the night
In nothin' flat, he was clean out of sight.

Well, I went inside and ordered me a cup
Told the waiter Big Joe was settin' me up
Aw!, you coulda heard a pin drop, it got deathly quiet
And the waiter's face turned kinda white.

"Well, did I say something wrong?" I said with a halfway grin
He said: "Naw, this happens every now and then
Ever' driver in here knows Big Joe
But son, let me tell you what happened about ten years ago."

"At the crossroads tonight, where you flagged him down
There was a bus load of kids, comin' from town
And they were right in the middle, when Big Joe topped the hill
It could have been slaughter, but he turned his wheels."

"Well, Joe lost control, went into a skid
And gave his life to save that bunch-a kids
And there at that crossroads, was the end of the line
For Big Joe and Phantom 309"

"But, every now and then, some hiker'll come by
And like you, Big Joe'll give 'em a ride
Here, have another cup and forget about the dime
Keep it as a souvenir, from Big Joe and Phantom 309!"

Have you heard of 'Six Days On The Road' by Dave Dudley? I watched him sing this nations favorite trucker's song in Florence, Kentucky in 1975.

Here it is...so tune in and come back here to read the lyrics.

As this recording was heard often over the years, the nations big truck driver's tires spun trillions of miles to this tune! ;D

"Six Days on the Road" - Dave Dudley of Wisconsin

Well I pulled outta Pittsburgh a rollin' down that Eastern Seaboard
I got my diesel wound up and she's a runnin' like a never before
There's a speed zone ahead but alright I don't see a cop in sight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

I got me ten forward gears and a Georgia overdrive
I'm takin' little white pills and my eyes are open wide
I just passed a Jimmy and a White I been a passin' everything in sight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

Well it seems like a month since I kissed my baby goodbye
I could have a lotta women but I'm nota like a some the guys
I could find one to hold me tight but I could never make believe it's alright
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

[ guitar ]

ICC is a checkin' on down the line
Well I'm a little overweight and my log book's way behind
But nothin' bothers me tonight I can dodge all the scales alright
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

Well my rig's a little old but that don't mean she's slow
There's a flame from her stack and that smoke's ah blowin' black as coal
My hometown's a comin' in sight if you think I'm ah happy you're right

Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight ;)

:-\ For the second time in a few days Mark Elvidge's talking A.I. Robot is off line. It's the fifth time since 2011. He is taking care of both of his parents with dementia at home while working as a radio station's engineer/computer expert. :(

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at

www.theparanormalnews.com/Archives

Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

:P I will give the old tricky Internet a few more days again when it came back on line 24 hrs later after noting "server not found" on Monday. It's a long way to London! ;D

;) Mark is probably greasing ole A.I. Robot as I type this short note.

So he'll be back on line soon and heard around the clock. Mark's sites were being hacked and he is moving his web wonders to a better protected server. Facebook's messaging system worked it's magic for SCANIA Hit! ;D

Of all the paranormal forums (so dusty these days) that A.I. can be heard telling my weird North Carolina experience. Only one comment has ever been made about Mark's efforts for me. Mysterial's White Dove of Croydon, England get's the credit! ;D ;)

Paranormal trivia early this morning: At 1 AM my next trailer for auto parts was 5311424. When my rig was turning into the steel fabrication plant I thought of the last three numbers 424. At the exact same synchronous second a radio ad man gave out a toll free number 800-424-****. Each number as I thought about them were spoken in perfect synch on the radio! 8) :o ;)

If the Englishman's controlled robot told story never comes back on line it had a good run of 4 years. ;)

Vance posted this news today and I've borrowed his nice post to let it rest quietly under North Carolina.

I've studied this link and I like the title to my true Guardian Angel's time delay or a North Carolinian's Guardian Angel who removed my log rig's time line East bound on I-40 about the time traffic got rushed in Asheville! 5:30 AM EST!

1.5 Million Safe Miles :o

Joshua's latest book is out and I received my copy today. It is a great treat. Bite-sized stories by the dozens, dealing with every fathomable form of phenomena and submitted by Josh's friends, readers and listeners, many of them contributors to this forum.

The Amazon preview includes a lot of free sample pages, so if you need convincing, check it out!

http://www.amazon.com/Was-Dark-Creepy-Night-Encounters/dp/1601633289

I was pleased to see Cody's classic Carolina rest stop story published within its pages and an example of my own strange family lore from the mountains appears as "The Legend of Red Blood Rock."

Would make a great gift and is sure to become a classic of the genre. This is the stuff that Speaking of Strange was spawned from!

P.S.

At Daily Snopes' "Spook Central" it was just crickets chirping ten years ago! ;D

I can't wait to get my copy! ;D

It is possible to over analyze when one strains his or her brain for reasons for my unexplainable experience at the I-40 rest park in North Carolina.

W

C

Those three very large white letters were printed on my black custom - reflective mud flaps at the rear of our re-modified (oil field pipe) 1977 HD HOBBS (log) trailer.

Besides my Guardian Angel or someone else's Guardian Angel creating a delay in my travels, and with me having the same home town as Robert W. Roll who wrote REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR in chalk on the old schools sidewalk, maybe it was thousands of Guardian Angels trying to highlight the 3 large letters X 2 at rear of the rig!

Literally thousands upon thousands of grain trailers, flat beds and livestock trailers nationwide carry a trailer manufactures logo displaying WT with a sideways C on the bottom. Our 3 stacked letters was based upon that well known American logo.

(Edited a short time after posting - Go to Remember Pearl Harbor in white chalk on this site. That link would not work right once posted)

I've always thought about that since 1993 and 2001, tho I've never written about it publicly here or anywhere else. George Noory always says, "There are no coincidences!"

One day I may add more personal synchros seemingly related to this non accident next to the border of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. ??? ???

Here's me driving my Dad's semi truck pulling his empty light weight 40' possum bellied trailer one night long ago in Kentucky, and here's what transpired on an impulse!

May the view count rise over in Scotland! ;D

;) And here too!

Thanks for the 7,700 views of which several hundred are credited to me! ;D

Greyhound buses or any other passenger bus in the U.S.A., well before our Interstate system was built, were known to pass semi trucks on two lane roads. It was a logical move to advance passengers right along. But at times there were illogical passes to experience first hand.

I suppose back then it was a trucker's goal to pass a Greyhound, but mostly it was just in their imaginations or prayers. I will admit it was never my goal, but that changed on just one night. Years ago Dad was passed a lot by them and sometimes he did brake to prevent close calls by buses.

Dad passed away on May 18, 1974. The following January 7, 1975 I was running empty and headed for my last load of hogs in western Kentucky. As I left Henderson, KY a Memphis, TN bound Greyhound bus was just leaving a railroad crossing after the driver did his STOP - LOOK & LISTEN.

Something clicked in my head related to my Dad's livestock trucking years. I punched my 318 Detroit Diesel motor thinking his motor was probably the same engine. I put my toe to the top of the fuel pedal to get the cable fully extended at the fuel pump. In a few miles I could tell I was gaining on the bus!

I was up to 65 mph and going downhill into a little valley that came up "just right" on the two lanes of U.S. 60. I caught the Greyhound bus and pulled out to pass using up the total legal passing zone to do it!

I did that attempt on quick impulse to pass a Greyhound bus with success for my Dad named Jack!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0KY_oMyvGQ

Turn it on to sing along.....

Songwriters: Thornton, Jim / Turner, Scott

Thank you Lord for all the miles without an accident
But I wanna ask just one more favor before my life is spent
Please Lord this once before I turn to dust
Let me run the wheels plumb off a Greyhound bus

You know I have been running these highways in this old rig for a long long time
And I have been humiliated by them dang buses till it's a crime
And even when I'm empty gettin' all that she's got in high
Huh, they just blow them air horns and flash them lights and fly on by
Now if I had me a rig that'd do about a hundred under the great big load
I'd wind her up tight and I'd blow me one of them grey dogs plumb off the road

So Lord before my last run to the foot of them mighty golden stairs
I hope there'll be an answer to this poor old trucker's prayer
But thank you Lord for all the miles without an accident
But I really do want to ask just one more favor before my life is spent
Please Lord this once before I turn to dust
Let me run the wheels plumb off a Greyhound bus

I'll be back again this weekend with another non paranormal but cool truckin' story I once told on a pirate radio station out in Greeley, Colorado.

While the weekend is still young, here is my 2nd contribution at Unexplained Mysteries in Jokes and Humor

http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=264086

A few years back I was on a pirate radio station out in Greeley, Colorado. I did not tell the truckin' story in my signature, but I had planned to in an outline sent to the station prior to that phone call.

I was awakened unexpectedly by the host. He rushed me putting me right on the air and I was not a happy coal trucker.

Here is what I told the farm/ranch and city folks of Greeley......

Just after sunset in 1978 on US Highway 41 North of Evansville, Indiana, the semi-truck weigh station sign said "OPEN" on a Friday evening. I turned into the lane and waited my turn with a "luckily legal" weight of marketed *hogs. Indiana's tallest state trooper was standing behind his shiny white cruiser to my left.

My turn for the truck tandem scales came and I pulled forward. Instantly I heard what sounded like a rain gutter's downspout pouring water on an upside down wash tub.

The noise was a gilt*, a young lady pig, cutting loose on his car from bumper to bumper all centered with her excess water passing through the American livestock trailer's lower side vent.

This was a highly arched unbelievable sight and the tall trooper was looking down and waving me on smartly! Her splashes in the bright security lighting resembled 10,000 sparkling diamonds that most surely took the fresh polish off his car!

When they all walked off 30 minutes later. I patted each pig in the bigger top middle section. I felt good knowing I patted the little lady that was gilty.

The station host was not too happy with that true tale. Neither was I in the fact that he called and woke me up!

:D

*Market pig terms: Barrows are the neutered males and the females are gilts and together on the CB radio a semi-trailer's full load was termed "go go" girls!

Title: Re:I-40 Map Quest - Fines Creek Rest Area!
Post by: MalariaKidd on October 29, 2014, 06:02:43 AM

Thanks to Joshua's e-mail on his 1 night only ghost hunt in Asheville's Masonic Temple/ Asheville Mystery Museum he provided a map to find the location.

So being new to Map Quest I traveled West on Intersate 40 and now I know the name of the rest area where I backed into the white Freightliner cabover semi truck! ;D 8)

Fines Creek Rest Area

http://www.mapquest.com/?hk=y5P1sv&icid=embed_viewLargerMap#f11bfc5799d818d202f54eb4

Aw shucks! The rest stop's name was searched and that was the link for Waynesville, and it came up right. But it still goes only to the Asheville Mystery Museum "push pin" locator. So "Go West" on I-40 to Waterville Lake and the rest stop is on the North end.

The link should be centered on Waynesville, so zoom in on "satellite", & go North to Waterville Lake next to I-40 and you'll see the rest stop. It was a lot smaller in 1989. 8)

Thanks to all visitors for helping to top 8,000 views found just this morning! All total in the UK and the USA there have been over 55,000 views (& climbing daily) of my SCANIA's Hit! ;D

It was possible to pull hen's teeth! After many failed attempts, I'm finally back with SCANIA Hit!

Mark Elvidge has closed Mysterial in the UK but his A.I. Robot's efforts assisted by our son made it possible to listen to my real experience out West of Asheville inside I-40's Fines Creek Rest Area.

This will be up 24-7-365 for a listen to "Paul", so named as NOAA's "new" National Weather Service's robotic voice. That same voice that Mark picked for Ole A.I. was first heard by a green faced me, what 6 years ago?

Here's "The Story of the Week" as it was originally heard on Mysterial's red inverted U shaped radio of past days. :-[

I hope this link is click worthy. It is! ;)

Edited July 4, 2018!

Speaking of Strange is no more as of March 31, 2018. At least my request to hear robot Paul tell my I-40 E Fines Creek rest stop story as a podcast on SOS was holding patiently for 11 days. ;D

Congratulations on it's great 15 year run! I did listen in live on many Saturday nights!

Here's Joshua P. Warren's permission to play this Guardian Angel's (mine or a North Carolinian's) "time line" travel delay saving a life or lives in April of 1989 on I-40 East) during Joshua's 'Speaking of Strange' radio show. If the decision is made to do that please leave out my full name heard at the beginning.

Now my request: Let me know if it's played so I can listen to the right podcast in Speaking of Strange.

Throughout the long history of mankind there's been lot's of proof of the afterlife. So my large vehicular accident, without ANY damage, and with me wide awake, is simply one more "action" by very active Spirit Guides inside North Carolina. Now refer to Joshua's list of our 49 other United States to continue. ;)

In closing, good ghost hunting to you all! I've never seen one to date but a spirit was standing-by patiently behind my SCANIA's semi log rig that morning at 4:00 AM for sure! 8)

To hear my 2 calls into Coast to Coast AM click SCANIAowner above SCANIA Hit! at Sound Cloud.
