Has anyone ever thought of putting up a webcam to view the Brown Mountain lights?

L.E.M.U.R. has thought about this quite a bit and would LOVE to put a live web cam up at a Brown Mountain overlook. The main problems involve funding and permission, with funding being the most outstanding issue (as usual). We would be grateful for any support in this endeavor, though.

Bring up this idea at the BML Festival in June. Maybe we can raise enough money there or begin to, at least. I'm sure there are many legalities that would have to be satisfied. I love to go to the web cams in the NC mountains and look at the weather, especially when I'm planning a trip up there.

I would love to see a webcam of the Brown Mountain Lights.  Funding is such a sticky issue.  Maybe start a website (link it to the existing Brown Mtn Lights website) and sell advertising.  People who donate X amount of money could receive a certificate declaring them "Guardians of the Lights" or something like that.  Just my two cents worth.

hello,

maybe LEMUR can open a bankaccount where people can deposit money for funding a webcam.
i think lots of people will be interested in this.
it would make it a lot more easy for me to see the lights.

greetings

Hello again to the LEMUR group.  Sorry to be gone so long.  Family  illness took it's toll during our trip to Stephenvilles and the Big Thicket, Texas back in April.  I personally believe we tarried too long in a couple of very strange areas.

Those interested in Brown Mountain Lights video might also want to check the oniquest.com website.  Sorry, dvd is currently out of production, and  camcorder video is not yet online, but there are screenshots and some unique digital images.  Bragg Road Ghost Light, of which we have three nights of video footage, was very similar during our visit this April.  All of which is on the table to be completed once time permits.

I think the resolution of a webcam would be too grainy to see the lights, it definitely would help out with the man hiding in the bushes at Wiseman though.  Also, the factor that it is extremely difficult to catch the lights on a regular camera, if at all, and a webcam tends to have less resolution.  Just an observation.

Some professor at ASU in Boone,NC was supposed to have that a few years back. I think he lost interest in the project because he's never seen the lights. I would donate towards the project if someone was to organize the mission.
