I decided to get us started.  I have heard so many silly things related to breastfeeding it is hard to pick just one..... here are some of the ones that really stand out:

Your baby has gained to much weight (exclusively breastfeeding) you will have to water down your breastmilk

Your baby is allergic to milk you will need to start formula (cow's milk based) right away

Your baby is too new...how will you know you baby is getting enough; you will need to supplement with formula after each feeding, 1 oz (baby less than 1 week old)

How will you know how much the baby is eating; you need to pump and then feed to be sure baby is getting enough

Do any of these sound familiar?

Last night I saw the play BIRTH by Karen Brody; it was brilliant!  What a great idea.  The play told the birth story of 8 women, and each story was moving and eye-opening.

It was a great night out.

How do/did you know if your OB or Midwife will support/respect your birth plan or birth wishes.  I know there are no guarantees; however, how do you know your birth attendants will support your birthing plan in the best way possible?

Many mothers express frustrations in the advice they receive from healthcare providers and wish that evidenced based information was the standard instead of the exception.  Do you feel you pediatrician is supportive of breastfeeding?

Is your pediatrician supportive of breastfeeding?  How do you know? What if they aren't?

What do you think?  For mothers who plan on breastfeeding, do you think that formula supplementation can derail their feeding plan?
