Just saw on RealFooty's website a list of senior listed players who have nominated for the national draft. There's 52 names on the list, including Scott Clouston.
I heard part of Scott's reason for delisting was something about not being fully committed to footy, but the fact he's nominated for the draft makes this point unlikely.
On field, his commitment isn't in question. He's an incredibly hard worker.
Also we know Voss likes him as a player, considering elevating Clouston to the senior list was one of the first things he did as coach.
Doesn't quite add up for me. The only explanation would be that Voss & Gubby have decided that he's unlikely to turn into a decent AFL player, which I find strange given his height, obvious athletic capabilities and how much he developed over the two years when he was a rookie.
Any suggestions? |

Been listening to a rather fine album called Yes, U by a Melbourne band called The Devastations. A song called Oh Me, Oh My is seductively brilliant. |
Didn’t know they were from Melb and are the same that collaborated with Blonde Redhead on Dark Was The Night. Have read are part of another benefit album ‘Perfect as Cats’ -- mmmmmmm… a Cure appreciation band??

I may have mentioned that I have mate in Auckland who was in a terrific mid 80's band called The Bird Nest Roys. They made one album, one EP and had one single out on Flying Nun and have a bit of cult status among us lovers of Dunedin Sound music. Ross, or Little Ross as is known by all, has still been playing around at various Bird Nest Roys reunion gigs and had another album called Tufnells out in the 90's. He has just released another album this year called The Rasper and goes by the name of The Diamond Rings. A homage to 60's Brit music say Hollies and Kinks. It is a solid album that has grown on me with plays.
On the Tufnel album he co wrote a song called Where's Bobby England. He mailed me a few weeks back to let me know that the tune of the song had the words reworked and has become the official song of The All Whites world cup campaign. If you YouTube One Shot For Glory NZ Soccer you will see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNe7f0vlsq0
It has a cockney bloke talking a lot of the usual rot haa haa! over the top of the song with Ross one of the blokes in the background pretending to play the guitar with drum sticks. Ross is a fine guitar player so not sure why he is doing that but it is just a film clip I guess.
With NZ qualifying for the World Cup last night Ross is rightfully ecstatic as his song now gets a very high profile and hopefully the rewards that go with it. I am kinda hoping that they change the words now from the "we hope we qualify" to a "now we have qualified".

I know a bloke who is a DJ around Bris. He got to go to the gig via his contacts at Virgin Records and sat 5th row with all his other DJ cronies. He told me that his mate was also selected to do the after gig party for Stevie Wonder and his crew at some place in James Street IRIC. After the gig his wife rang to say that their baby was a bit crook and he best not go so he went home.
He told me his mate rang the next day and told him that he started playing a bit of music and Stevie Wonders daughter approached him and made a few requests for specific soul/funk. He had left the majority at home so they arranged for their Limo to get him back home and return with the required records. The moment he played the records they requested the entire crew just boogied into all hours including Stevie.
During a break later in the evening the daughter approached and said that her dad wanted to say a few words. Stevie asked his age, late 20's, and then asked why he was such a fan. "My mum used to play you a lot when I was young and I fell in love with your music" Stevie insisted on ringing his mum but the problem was she lived in England. No problem said Stevie and made the DJ ring his Mum in England. Once Dj had introduced him he reckoned that Stevie thanked her profusely for introducing her son to his music as he was such a wonderful DJ and had made their after gig party a night to remember.
The bloke I know said that his mate was as high as a kite the next day, reckoned Stevie Wonder was the coolest man on the planet and his Mum in England has still never recovered from talking to her idol.
The bloke I know said he had no regrets going home but sure wishes he had been there none the less. |
